Compound loading 6th order quarterwave "Super Planar" horns and pipes concepts/builds

Hi guys. I played around 2x12 paraflex/planar top design and modified front waveguide. How do you think, should it work in real life close to hornresp graph or this my design have some big disadvantages? In a spl graph there are 2 boxes, speakers are B&C 12MH32, Halfspace, @ RMS power. In a Sketchup picture there is the same box, just in different configurations, internal height is 350mm for horizontally oriented boxes. Group delay is for single box.

It's a nice project, but it doesn't look like super planar, it's just a front load horn with vented rear chamber.

A small suggestion, based on the the image that you show detail about the baffle, looks like you are wasting a lot of volume inside the box, I highlighted for you in Red/brown. If you can integrate those volumes to the rear chamber, the project will be more optimized.

Agree, it is a ported horn. My main idea is to raise upper frequency range to get a crossover point higher than on planar or paraflex tops and to use smaller compression driver than 1.4'', super high sensitivity is not so important. I already have Beyma CD10FE compression drivers and with 1200hz or higher crossover point i will be happy, because i want to use them in my next project. About these closed volumes - some drivers allow to coupling them to rear chamber and some not - there will be a dip in frequency range 100-150hz.
 
Matthew, I wanted to follow up on this suggestion of yours!

I haven't been able to build recently and have had limited time to throw parties because I'm a new dad--but we did notice that the cabs have a resonance somewhere and if I can fix it with acoustic foam than that's obvious low-hanging optimization fruit for the rig.

Where precisely would I want to glue (staple??) the foam? On the inner wall directly in the path of the driver? Here's an uggo ms paint illustration of what I'm thinking (foam would be in red); let me know if I'm on the right track (and if you can link to a foam product to buy, that would be clutch too):

Apologies for taking so long to reply, I haven't logged into DIYaudio for a bit ....
In order to tighten up the cabinet's upper response I suggest lining the forward-facing rear panel in this cabinet's High-Tuned Resonator section as shown below (damping material in green).
Thick damping material will be more effective for our target range .... 2" thick acoustic foam is readily available on Ebay .

This modification may reduce some of your sensitivity above 80hz but it will also reduce decay times in the cabinet's upper response thereby improving matters in the time domain and tightening the sound of your output ..

We are going to be working on a change to the Type "C" Classic's HTR geometry and the alterations we will be testing are based upon observations we have made when experimenting with some of our other Paraflex cabinet designs (these observations resulted in our developments of updates for those cabinets which yielded worthwhile improvements in their time domain performance). .

NOTE: The way in which you Low-Pass your subwoofer section's signal can also make a difference with this cabinet ..... A 4th order Butterworth (BW24) at 80hz or 90hz would be a commonly used LPF setting for this type of cabinet, some prefer to go higher with it, in fact Tiz Laney (also in this forum) was initially running his quite a bit higher (and may still be) but his Type "C"Classics are loaded with 21SW152 drivers which is an ultra deluxe choice ..

We have a few small regionally based HOQS websites just getting started (for Europe and Africa) ..

We definitely do want a global HOQS website eventually, one which is rich with features, resources, media and fun! :geek: .. It is something which we have been talking about for a while now behind the scenes ..... We have already purchased the domains and now It is just a matter of our key people finding the time to focus on the creation..

Parametric CAD fully integrated with Hornresp, easy and simple to run simulations. I share it in the Facebook as well but not everyone follows facebook anymore.
