Good Afternoon Everyone. So I bought a pair of FH3 from a fellow diyer with Planet 10’s Enabled treatment done to the drivers. I unfortunately bumped the dust cap by accident 😢. I was able to get all the damage removed but, the crease underneath the middle of the dust cap and a oval shaped discolored spot above the crease. So how to fix it suggestions?
1. Cut the dust caps off and replace them with new ones (Not treated)?
2. Cut the old dust caps off and put a wooden phase plug in place instead of the dust cap? I might be using a tweeter and just let the driver naturally roll of and cut the tweeter in at 2,700 khz?
3. See if I can send them into fostex to get fixed by them senc. that have all the glue and parts on hand? Could take months Madisound has already e mailed me back about this? Or I could see if they would send me a replacement dust caps?
Please tell me what you think? Here are a few pictures of the damage.🤦🏼

I did get your email.
And i was hoping for pictures. But the ones you have posted do not seem to show the issue.
These dustcaps are kind of fluid. Small dents can actually be teased out (not easy), but if you have a sharp crease that is a different story.
Can you hear the issue?

So the guy I bought them from thinks it will be a issue? I did hear them but, it’s been awhile so I can’t really remember if it is or not of it effects the sound? I will have to take a few more pictures and see if this helps? Ya I don’t know if you got my e mail? Sorry about the posted rush for answers? Yes there is a creased line under the middle dust cap. Here are a few more pictures. You can see the damage that looks like scratch’s on the dust cap. Then you see the flash that has a line and a discolored oval shaped around the flash part. There is also a small indentation to the left of the flash. That was all creased in. It took a while to get it this good. So any thoughts Dave?
P.S. For some reason am not getting any notifications when someone post things on the diy forum anymore? I will try and check a few times a day now.👍

So Dave I feel terrible this happen. 🤦🏼. The original owner was going to buy them back but, now only wants to replace them with the new FF165wk drivers. I want to get them fixed if I can? You have put so much effort into Enabling these drivers.
Just compare its sound directly with the intact driver, can you hear a difference at all on your most subtle music? Harp, solo violin, tone sweep (android app Frequency Sound Generator). If not, I suggest not worrying any further. You have already done an excellent fix.
I've got metal dome tweeters looking much worse but sounding the same as its good mate.

The first 2 pictures look like some of the gloss has been scraped off. Third picture has a semi-circular arc on the bottom, right quadrant of the dustcap, is that it?

Yes that’s it dave. I have not scraped anything off. It could be from the damage that was done. The first 2 pictures look like some of the gloss has been scraped off. Third picture has a semi-circular arc on the bottom, right quadrant of the dustcap, is that it?

Thanks for the positive feedback. My second metal driver fix in over the years. Soft domes a few here and there. I just tried to remember how to fix a damaged dust cap and it just came back to me. I almost used a hair dryer to smooth out the damage but, worked on it and took my time.Just compare its sound directly with the intact driver, can you hear a difference at all on your most subtle music? I did go to a A.K. Fest show years ago that had these drivers in a BK 16 box (No Tweeters). They cut the dust caps off of both drivers and the voice coils were exposed. They were selling them as a set for $400.00 bucks as I recall. I will have to see If I took a picture of the drivers?Yes that’s it dave. I have not scraped anything off. So here’s an update. I did a very thin layer on the dust cap due to all the wrinkles and creases. Looks good. Drying now. Will wait in-till tomorrow and will take a few pictures Dave. 👍.
It will be later in the day due to work. By the way what number brush do you use Dave to get that smooth no streak look?

Dave here’s a update on the thin layer of mogpog I put on the dust cap? You can still see a few spots that look creased? Should I put a heavier coat on? JeffIf you lose the dustcap, you will lose top and phas epugs should be installed.
But if the issue is that arc i woud take a q-tip, a tiny bit of modPodge and just run it along the crease to reinforce it, and se ehow it goes first.

Looks good.
The creases won’t go away they just won’t get worse (finger’s crossed), and will affect performance less.
dave
PS: i use the white paintprushes i bought at Michael’s that come as. avariety pack. For those dustcaps say one about 5-6mm wide.

Thanks Dave. Am not a professional like you. So I will buy some paint brushes for future use. It turned out better then I hoped.😁. I will let dry for a week and play them. Jeff
