You can add a heavy wine like port or sherry in place of rum, taste will differ...but the fruit cake will stay fresh and soft for much longer than a dry cake.
We use Christian Brothers brandy in the fruit cake. Takes about 6 weeks to get it right. We will eat the whole think when done right.
I planted potatoes next to my tomatoes in the garden. Both grew into wonderful plants, the tomatoes did very well and I picked a few dozen but the potatoes were all plant, didn't even get to pick one. No luck raising chickens either, my wife claims I planted the eggs too deep.
Meet Eddie and Levi, a couple of six month old kittens. Levi is the black and white one, we got her at about 10 weeks old. Eddie is a rescue and we got him at about 5 months old. They are best buddies 🙂 They definitely keep us on our toes.

We Argentines LOVE our "fruitcake" but having so many Italians around, we prefer the original one, the famous Milan Style "Pannettone"
Which does not get stale by any means, no way 😉

I think that is her favourite (still has the foam inside) was for my wife, a new 13600K workstation! Every box has to be tried out 😉wintermute, good choice on the high tech play house.

There actually IS a German Fish and Milk soup. Mecklenburger FischsuppeI prefer fish milkshakes.
But it´s savoury, not sweet.
I make some a couple times a year.
The trick is to remove all scales, if present (depending on fish used) but leaving the full skin, which after boiling for some time, thickens the soup big time (releases lots of gelatine).
Of course, like with most fish recipes, no grey areas, you either love or hate it.

In Scotland we have Cullen skink.
"Simmer haddock, potatoes, milk, onion and parsley to make this comforting soup."
