When using this dac with my computer, differing levels of digital distortion were clearly present, with the best digital files having the least. The results were good to terrible.
But when I use my Carver MV5 cd player as a transport, I get much different and improved results.
Not only is the distortion reduced to a tolerable level, the sound is warmer and smoother, with a good soundstage and imaging, and with even more air than I am use to hearing from redbook digital.
I would also say that it is closer to analog than my old Micromega Stage 3

A coaxial cable.What are you using to get from your PC to the DAC ?
From spdif out from the motherboard I'm guessing, not very good isolation from the noisy PC environment. Might explain the poor results. You might have better results if you can use optical out to the DAC, if you have that capability.

It was off the digital output at the back of my ASUS Xonar DS + ASUS coaxial adaptor.
It would require another adaptor to run it off the optical output of the card. But the card with its custom opamp sounds fine for computer use.
It's a mid '90's model with 2 tda1307t 5bit dacs 128x os, the same as my Carver.+1
The old micromega with the tda1541a and the cdpro1 ? Sounded good in my souvenirs....
For those of you not familiar with this dac, I bought it a few months ago from Aliexpress. It is a 47 Labs clone with a Philips TDA1387 chip in non-oversampling mode.
It also employs a variant of the Pass output buffer, and utilizes a sole S/PDIF coaxial input.
Several here thought that it would be a low-grade piece of junk, with one member having previously used it with his computer reporting the same results as I.
So apparently, this dac is an overachiever for the price/design that happens to be very sensitive to the signal fed to it.

To add to my observations regarding this dac, I find it to be an accurate one which appears to neither add nor subtract anything from the signal it recieves.
I normally don’t champion accuracy in audio components as I prefer those that smooth and sweeten the rough parts of most recordings. But this dac appears to be refined enough to keep things civil and listenable.
