FW chassis power dissipation

How much power is max. pr side for a standard FirstWatt chassis?
I have two of these (clones) made for mono block use (was intended for a J2 project).
90W pr side is too much, I guess?

The heatsinks have relative long fins.......but not long enough?

The F2, F4 and F5 all dissipate about 60-65 watts per side. But those are safe ratings, comercially. FAB are allowed to crank that Iq uuuuuuuup 🙂

But if 60-65 ends up in approx 50 degree C sinks, going for 90 might be a tad too much.

I run my AJ Zen with approx 90 watts dissipation per chan in the 5U. Wouldn’t wanna go any higher with only two devices per channel. But for BA-3, I routinely went for 120 watts per channel. Very hot, but my Fyne’s loved it 🙂

Just curious: where did you get the chassis from?

Regards,
Andy

I could add a bit of active cooling. The FW chassis has horizontal fins.
I got the chassis from Thailand and he custom made the back panel for mono block use.
It was before I discovered that the design was a trademark of FW. But now I have the chassis.
Think I won't harm the business of FW if I use them for DIY 🙂

Another option is to lower the voltage a bit......from 60 to 50 V

Maybe I should keep the FW-chassis for a future J2 project.
I have not investigated the new design Modushop chassis what max. dissipation we have here (e.g. stereo chassis used as mono block).
I just remember that the new design looks good.

The "FW-cloner" in Thailand also makes an Aleph chassis clone. A black cube with heatsinks on all four sides. Was it called Aleph0?
How much heat did an Aleph dissipate?
Two of these chassis would look quite good as I like the design. Is the Aleph chassis also a "protected" design?

The person saved my VFET kit with a new Sonly VFET as one of my VFETs had developed flicker noise. It biased up perfect without any need to adjust the pot. VFET was real which is always a concern.

I completely understand (sorta still have it personally) Greedy Boy urge to steal, beg and cry for something/anything resembling original Papawork

Dunno, I'm not savvy enough in legal things to know are those FW and PL cases protected legally in any way ....... but buying blatant copies of cases is nothing else than direct support to if not criminal then certainly immoral trader

had experience in similar project (Babelfish Aleph XJ, Ali knock-out of biggest PL case), but I was hired gun, unable to resist challenge of complete (re)design

in the end - decision is yours .......

And we all know the customer is really unhappy with those amps. So I have told him to send them off to NMZMVDF

Regarding moral standards. I find immoral is better than amoral, since it takes a notipn of acceptable ethics to realize ones own immorality
