Digikey vs Mouser for hole through parts

I guess it depends on what you need. I find Mouser still sells lots of TH.

Shipping is about the same but Mouser wants 20$ for orders under 100$, Digi-Key only wants 8$.
That's to Canada.
Arrow also has parts, 50$ and free shipping but no terns DDP so you pay tax and duty at the door - I still find it less expensive for chassis and transformers though.
There's also LCSC - Many good parts for a good price but shipping and duty can be expensive.

I suspect he may not be on the planet Earth!

Of course Mouser sells through hole parts. They are less popular today for quantity orders than surface mount parts, thus the sort engine presents the common parts first. Easy to fix just use their sort engine and specify through hole parts.

The other issue is why not use surface mount parts? The only ones I avoid are small surface mount film capacitors, as some varieties seem to melt too easily for me and can change value after soldering.

TH is like manual transmission. Getting rare except for high power parts.
There are 66,532 cars for sale on Auto Trader within 100km of M1M1M1 postal code. Only 3719 of them are manual.
There are 15.576 N channel MOSFETs. 5198 are TH but only 47 of those are Depletion MOSFETs... (Just saying, I'm a tube guy so depletion MOSFETs make sense to me).

Not sure how fast mouser shipping is, but digikey is usually fast. I buy stuff like twice a month it seems. The top of digi's web site always apologizes for delays due to high volumes/covid/... And yet when I order Sunday night, I get an immediate acknowledgement, and almost always a ship notice on monday. I keep thinking apology accepted. Another trick on digi is to always check the option "in stock" when searching. If you don't, the top few items displayed may be in stock, but after that you may see some out of stock followed on page 2 with in stock again. I have a soft spot for Digi as when I was in college they catered more to the hobbyist.

Mouser, "across the world", Texas US to Croatia Europe, sent tuesday, received friday. That is hella fast if you ask me 🙂 New acounts may be slower to ship/pack items, as their acounting may need further info to stop frauds. But same day shipping usually.

Just received today (Saturday) a pair of tweeters ordered from Digikey on Thursday morning. Used $5 shipping (USPS). ND to GA. Yes, I am impressed. Visaton driver prices, good they are. Customer service always picks up promptly and resolves issues. So far, so good with them.

Often i’ve found bits that aren't available locally on on farnell (next day delivery) which is when digikey and mouser come in. Often they ship from the US without keeping stock locally here in the UK. Typically sent monday, arrive thursday.

I haven't ordered anything from Mouser for over 3 years for just that reason. Digikey's order processing is excellent, almost always ships same day ordered. Mouser is three times closer to me than Digikey but parts take twice as long to arrive.

Texas to Philadelphia orders from Mouser usually take 3 to 5 days for me.
I've always got a confirmation email and tracking info promptly, and I take note of the travel times, which can vary.
So regardless of actual distance, it's really up to the postal system which delivers packages, isn't it?

They don’t ship right after the shipping number was released. You cannot blame it on the shipping company.
From my personal experience , digikey ships literally same day or next day while for mouser , a few days are needed.
