Not really.
To us "celebrity Techs" , famous Customers are just that, "customers".
Let Fans live in their own, "larger than life" world.
We do talk about hardware and Mod tricks instead 😉
Or tools, cool new Lab Instruments, clever useful Software, that kind of stuff.
A much preferred subject: rant about how litle do Manufacturers pays to Service Techs on Warranty work. 😱

Where did you buy these MELFs? As with most parts I would shy away from cheap noname stuff. As the LIGO resistor test showed there are differences in resistors. The best performing MELFs in that test can be found from e.g. Mouser and Digikey.Since then ive taken a closer look at the said melf resistors, stripped its shell and and noticed the inner tube is less diameter than the TH resistor of the same claimed rating. Coincidence? Ill let you experts decide
Good morning, I think I start a thread "Those dreaded SMT haters". These guys literally know only negative things about SMT or they invent them themselves. Or they compare ultra cheap parts by unknown Chinese brands with A branded TH parts.
Anything is allowed against SMT as the premise is that these are all garbage. A religion really so facts are only a nuisance.

Theyre from jlcpcb smt assembly line and of chinese brand. Since then Ive noticed jlcpcb mislabels their tht resistor ratings so im not surprised if the ones i bought are underrated.
Ok. So you think cheap noname jlcpcb SMTs can be used as representative for all SMTs? And next time you buy a fake AD797 from china you create a new topic "that dreaded AD797 sound".Theyre from jlcpcb smt assembly line and of chinese brand.
Lol you do realize youre trying to twist my arm for writing a meger thread post, right? I never stated my finding as an absolute, didnt try to turn it into an article or something serious like that, and even said i wanted to revise the thread title at which request the mod first demanded an apology. You thought what i did was silly (and i admit it was), i find your overreaction just as laughable
Now you are changing the thread subject from resistor SOUND to resistor RATING.Theyre from jlcpcb smt assembly line and of chinese brand. Since then Ive noticed jlcpcb mislabels their tht resistor ratings so im not surprised if the ones i bought are underrated.
Unless they explode in use and (measurably) change or stop sound, that is completely irrelevant.
Sometimes a thread better is closed. In fact I just asked the mods to close it.
Sorry for the general unpleasant tone donovas but you undeniably contribute in a large part to that.
All well that ends well 🙂

For some people it would be another chance to go on about how ABX tests are all stupid and misleading and depending on the outcome that every participants' gear is bad and not resolving enough. For others it might be a step forward in figuring out what's going on by making an attempt to answer if there really is a subjective difference. Next step would be to compare measurements and see what we can learn from that.As has already been stated several times in this thread there is no guarantee that resistors are the only difference between those preamps. So what exactly is the purpose of that A/B test?
As we are again totally off topic in the usual gutter, a slightly related sidenote: I find SMD parts awesome! They make soldering boards much faster and when I'm point to point wiring the possibility to solder e.g. decoupling caps directly onto the pins of TO-220 with a minimum of parasitic inductance gives me a warm fuzzy fealing.
I find through-hole resistors prettier than ordinary (non-MELF) SMD resistors, and they are easier to solder on a perfboard than SMD resistors. That has nothing to do with their performance, obviously.
They might also do well to consider the common reaction by a core contingent to any thread raising the subject of parts audibility. The thread was civil before their arrival.Sometimes a thread better is closed. In fact I just asked the mods to close it.
So you mean this was civil before the first response which btw has 14 likes. They might also do well to consider the common reaction by a core contingent to any thread raising the subject of parts audibility. The thread was civil before their arrival.
PCB layouts are more compact as well.a slightly related sidenote: I find SMD parts awesome! They make soldering boards much faster
You have to question the mentality of hobbists and Diy'ers who have contempt for smd resistors and yet they use products everyday that contain dozens if not hundreds of smd resistors, capacitors and IC's.
Think about how many smd resistors does an electrical signal pass through travelling from your keyboard to this forum via the internet.
I have the same with ugly and pretty women.I find through-hole resistors prettier than ordinary (non-MELF) SMD resistors, and they are easier to solder on a perfboard than SMD resistors. That has nothing to do with their performance, obviously.
That's a curious example of civility..... the first response which btw has 14 likes.
He seems to be confusing melf with milf.I never solder women to perfboard, or to anything else for that matter.
What am I missing? if the part has the same specs, it should work identically to the original?
I don't use SMT parts because I'm building tube stuff and SMT parts don't lend themselves to that. I see no reason a resistor thats TH or SMT would be different on a macro level.
