The letter is very clean, too clean to be hand painted (IMO). It doesn't look like stickers. Any idea how they did this, or how I could replicate it?

It´s a Latin letter very much alive in certain languages, so not surprisingly at least some transfers must include it:Where'd they get the combo AE then? Never seen a transfer like that one.

As of that homemade looking preamp case, the sparsity of lettering suggests hand applied transfers, later varnish sprayed on, but of course it might be silkscreening ... in which case I would expect more elaborate graphics.
FWIW transfers are created by silkscreening a special ink on transparent/translucent sheet and then sprayed with contact adhesive.
The hole could have been drilled off.but what happened with the MC Load type? Also the 100K is off.
But the 100k and LOAD are definitely off, so most likely to be transfers.
First guess would be a very good appication of something like LetraSet.

If you have some left over. Now you can buy vinyl letters, or Chartpak rub-on lettering.

Totally forgot about them and their various copycats; @ a still sleepless 4:05 am, just remembered doing them when I worked at a screen printing shop part time back when tubes still ruled.LetraSet.
