Troels Gravesen Faital 3WC-10

Two ideas I had for stands. These are public files in OnShape. Search for Faital. The right might need another support on the bottom. These designs are intended to have small wheels underneath to move them around more easily.

Also making one, getting close to finished, needs to do final home stretch though.

My take has ports moved to back and shortened on bottom, missing volume is taken back on deeper box.
I also have on shelf option to try SBA TW-29TXN-B textreme tweeters, will be interesting to see how they will perform compared to 91300. I am not Troels though so we will see how close i can make them to match 91300 tweeter measurement..

My Faitals are up and running, burning them in right now. From my experience, you can't tell completely how they sound until 80+ hours are in, but here are preview so to say:

Compared to my brothers revised (capacitors changed new, contacts clened) NS1000 yamaha, faital sound almost as airy and detailed. Sound stage width is good, height is ok, could be a bit higher. Listening acoustic quitar, ns1000 defines instruments in space bit more clearly and separates them from each other, also same goes for singer.

Faital sound is bit more closed together, small difference in openness but audible. Tone is smoother, warmer and more civil and faital, right now faital makes you listen music and ns1000 you concentrate on sounds.

I will update once the burn in has 100+ hours, still right now they are quite good, better than new Sonus faber maxima amator i heard for my taste.

Thanks for the review. Always interesting to hear other peoples opinion on something you own. Are the Yamahas as transparent as the 3WC-10? I find transparency is one of their strongest points.

As you say I also think the 3WC-10 will open up with more hours on them.

Please update when you have given them some time! 🙂

Hi matsurus, love the design and build on those stands. I made the 3WC-10 last year and I found they really took a while to break in. Don't underestimate that aspect or be too quick to judge in meantime. They started out too lean sounding for me, but after nearly a fortnight things fell into place and they really came together wonderfully.

Edit for the last message: "
Faital sound is bit more closed together, small difference in openness but audible. Tone is smoother, warmer and more civil IN faital, right now faital makes you listen music and ns1000 you concentrate on sounds."

Right now yamahas are bit more transparent, but they are very transparent speakers as they are beryllium monitors and faital is still burning in.
Will update again after burning in!

Hi.

Which speakers are in the corner? Are they Troels 861? How do they compare with 3WC-10?

Damm, I was just looking for specs on the Fatial woofer and I stumbled on this thread.

Is it really $418 Euro just to buy the basic XO components?
I'm not sure if you're considering that high or low I would assume high. I own the Faital 3WC-15 which I love. Once got all the components in I looked up what it would have taken to buy the components to see how much of a markup there was and it was less than what I would have had to pay for the components individually.

@matsurus Can you compare them to your Discovery 861 😳

Not with detail and comparatively, but i did play same songs on both and i would say:
-861 is warmer and bit smoother, has more height on soundstage, is bit faster, also more rounder on bass (not as sharp) has little less details and show little less deep acoustic space. It also sound bit bigger, probably because height and midrange is 6,5 inch in size. If you want absolute smooth performer for all kinds of albums, 861 it is.

Do you think the Last troel production the Fusion 22 with Drivers SBAcoustic is better than à Yamaha ns1000 ?
Impossible to say with accuracy.

Speculating though:
-I have that tweeter on test baffle tw29txn-b, it is excellent tweeter bit smoother that yamaha tweeter, space and detail are probably mostly the same.
Textreme midranges are neutral and detailed, so probably about the same in midrange, bass sbacoustic wins for reach to bottom, ns1000 were never playing too deep and its bass woofer is its weakness so sb wins in there.

If you go for that kit, change silver-z to superior-z caps. They are for my taste too technical, but good after bypassing with 0,1 vintage pio to add warmth & smoothness. Going for superior z probably is the easiest since they are smoother than silver (and cheaper), troels himself said that he can't hear difference between two but your opinion may vary..

the Fusion 22 kit is of great interest, maybe even more than the 3wc-15
on the other hand I find it a bit expensive, there is no choice of level! you tell me to change the change silver-z to superior-z , but the kit does not offer it

Anyway, thank you for your advice and analysis.

Hi

Been away for quite some time. Thinking now I really want to build a new set of speakers.

The build I'm thinking about is the Faital 3WC-10 from Troels Gravesen. I find several builds of the 3wc-12 and the 3wc-15, but none of the 3wc-10.

Reason for choosing the 3wc-10 is size.

Is there anyone here that has built this?
Will it sound more or less the same as it's bigger "brothers"?

Problem with a PA 10" is it a little needs a bottom end driver for the low bass due to its high frequency resonance. However the design is sold has a standalone. Certainly it is tuned to emphasize the high pass punch in order one to forgett the missing deep end. Proof his in the pudding, you have to listen to to know. Seems less risky to go with the 12" (or the 15")

Thanks! They both sounds great! I ordered the Discovery 861 and I received the kit from Jantzen - super nice! Starting building in January

But it is silver for midrange.... Should not make that much difference in sound. I also think Jantzen would give you Superior if you want, and the price difference is only 10 eur per capacitor
