Why is audio "base" misspelled as "bass"

Are we running out of words to express meaning? Must we mangle exiting words instead of creating new ones? If base is bass, should treble be trout to continue the fishy metaphor.

base comes from 2 primary sources, confision of synonyms by those who speak English as a 2nd or 3rd language (or don’t speak English at all and google translate everything — as the new forum sw has more clearly exposed), and spell-check coupled with the unfortunately poor prose of many english speaking members.

I try to fix it everytime i see it happen

Omg final we are talking about something important. A bass is a fish, in order to get base out of bass you have to break phonetic rules. Since we have proven scientifically that phonetics is the key to literacy, spelling bass in this way and inventing a hard A which cannot exsist is contributing to the decline of western civilization.

Important and audio related. 🙂

My excuse is because I'm retired and spend about 4 hours every morning perusing the newspapers online and reading through (or is it threw?) some of my favorite forums.

What's your excuse?

Or a Bass Bass - a lower register singing member of the fish species.

Audio has never used Base in sound, as a part of a transistor yes, at least not since the internet use. 🙂 The American English language is made up of many different languages, Latin, Greek, German, etc. so don't ask for it to be logical. 🙂
