Hey everyone,
I’m interested in buying some near field speakers. Not desktop but something that suits a smaller room. I’ve been looking at the Kef ls50 meta but thought to ask the group. What else should I consider?

Not locked at all. Budget probably $1500.
I’ve got a Pass F6 amp. The source is either a Onkyo cdp or a Mac Mini. I’m using an AD 1862 R2R dac as well. I do use Bluetooth fairly often, just convenient, easy
Thanks

It opens a lot of answers.
You could take a look at offer of nearfield studio monitors too.
There is a lot of nice loudspeakers from Neumann, Genelec, Focal, Dynaudio, Adam, Quested,etc,etc,... Some even comes with dsp/software and mic to apply room corrections...
Of course it would not suit everyone.
If interested in coaxials loudspeakers there is Tannoy gold8 which isn't that bad, Kali IN8 which are surprising but these are entry level ( the box are not state of the art in my view). Nevertheless they are worth a listen.
Presonus Scepter 8 are worth a listen too. I liked them despite high bias againstat first look. Much more 'serious' built for the one i've seen and thus a pair should be within your budget, more technology involved too ( Fir filtering used to succesfully mitigate issues related to the protubering waveguide).
In hifi there is a lot of offer too and in the end it'll depend your own preference for a rendering or another.
Difficult to answer for you.
That said we are on a diy forum. Maybe something homebrew could bring as much joy? This have to be evaluated as i find commercial offer very, very competitive in this price range.

and this is the fullrange/wideband/single or woofer assisted sub-forum.That said we are on a diy forum.
1500$ budget for a pair of loudspeakers and some wood ( if wood pleases you...) is too much.

The first issue could easily be solved by Intojazz asking a mod to move the thread to a more suited sub forum.
Second is relative. Which level of finishing do you expect? Are you able to reach it in diy? Most of the loudspeakers i pointed are powered and include dsp, amplifiers ( multiple) adc and dac, some software... how much and how long would it cost to develop something similar on your own?
AAAAAAAARRRRGGGGHHHHHH! 😎adc and dac
I'm afraid of it!
and hardware!software
Those knobs...Kef ls50 meta
Indeed, it’d be helpful if the OP could clarify if they’ve given any consideration to assembling an available kit, or the ability to build a proven design, or is interested only in commercial products - whether mainstream or lesser known names. It might also help if they have any particular benchmark reference of “Something like XYZ that I’ve heard /owned before”, but suitable for this different venue.
Need they necessarily be a compact stand-mounter/ bookshelf type?

I'd second that - there's a lot of choice/value out there. You won't find anything as beautiful as those Kefs though 🙂
I'm using a pair of Quested 2018s, but the Genelec Ones series have some amazing DSP tech.
If that's what Intojazz wants..by Intojazz asking a mod to move the thread to a more suited sub forum.

Well, it depends. If your source are (mainly) digital you'll only have one converting stage within your signal path. It's a plus.
If you use analog source then things gets more complex as you need some good adc and a good 'front end' to match.
It's not cheap but achievable. My own digital chain is as resolving at 24/96 as my TT with mc. It include diy riaa preamp ( RJM's Phonoclone) but converters are pro.
I'm afraid of it!
May i ask why? It's a dumb tool. It does what you ask him to do.
Genelec one (8331, 8341, 8351) sounds great. I heard the big one and was convinced ( but i'm already half convinced as coax user) without being a Genelec aficionado ( 1031 and the likes i find ok but thats it). But i fear they'll be out of budget.

let's see....cassettes, LPs, CDs....Yes, most is analogue! DVD player basic (50$...well, some years ago) or CDP that I own are fine.Well, it depends. If your source are (mainly) digital you'll only have one converting stage within your signal path.
Regarding OP request for suggestions...I really don't know! I get tired from listening from systems non ad-hoc 😒, you know, after you know the trick the magic's gone. If the source is representative of a system ( and every piece is 'representative', if you know what I mean), the selection of it is crucial for the whole [chain].
Same goes for the room, which is the first 'subject' to be perfected: Once you picture how ( where) the speakers are placed in space, in order to reduce at minimum the infinite variations that would appear at every slight change of position ( speakers or listener), then the first step is done
- Home
- Loudspeakers
- Full Range
- Near field small room speakers
