hey everyome
here's my project:
Beyma or Faital 15" pro woofer
Audax pr170mo or PHL 1120 midrange
Raal 140-15d
1st order, passive 1st order series crossover.
xo points: 300hz/4khz?
Can I use the 140-15d crossed around 4khz 1st order?

I think these midrange drivers are not the best choice for a 4kHz crossover. You can probably get a flat frequency response, but there will be a problem with directivity, I don't know, but many people say that this is important. A Viawave SRT-7 ribbon tweeter would fit them.
Or replace the midrange with something smaller, 4-5", which could play better up to 4 kHz.
Probably, ideally, it would be possible to make a 4-way with midbass and a domed midrange 😵

anyone ever used the raal 140-15d in a 1st order design?
Send mail to RAAL. I'm sure they will be able to help you with some advice.
apparently a Raal ribbon simply cannot be integrated into a 1st order system.
oh well! thx everyone

If you look at Raals' recommendation a 1.6khz 4th order xo is stated with increased power handling. That xo freq/order would also work nicely with either the Audax/PHL mids. ... and I'd bump that woofer xo up to 500hz as well.
i only want to use 1st order crossover for all the drivers. If you look at Raals' recommendation a 1.6khz 4th order xo is stated with increased power handling. That xo would also work nicely with either the Audax/PHL mids.
I guess i could cross around 5khz, but whats the point. seems pricy for only the last 2 octave.
Well you also need to look at what the mid choices you spec'ed are doing at 4-5khz.i only want to use 1st order crossover for all the drivers.

How much power handling do you need?
Specs says 200W program handling with 4th order LR @ 1,6kHz.
If you use 1st order @ 4kHz that would be around 1/3 of that
Edit: I agree with #3 you need smaller mid 4-5in for 4kHz XO frequency.

the system will be 95db efficient. powered with either a 30 WPC gainclone or EL84 PP amp (15WPC). I definitely couldnt use even more then 10 watts in my room before leaving in panic 🙂
right now my system is already almost the same speaker: eminence pro15, audax 170mo and hivi rt2ha. i want to build a slightly better speaker then what i use now...
i could maybe try to find a 5" that efficient, not sure they sound as good as phl 1120 or 170mo however.
