Morning friends,
I need a little help. What would be a suitable modern replacement for this capacitor. “A47M” and can you help identify the type, I.e is it a film or Mylar? The parts list says it should be a ceramic??
Any help appreciated. Thanks, Jools

Given it’s 20% tolerance (M) i suspect any ceramic or film cap depending on the circuit purpose. 474 = 0.47uF.
My first instinct would he to check the purpose but a similar performance film cap would do.

50V (although that doesnt indicate the AC or DC voltage).Ceramic will take more volts than film?
May or not be an issue.
The symetric nature looks like a phono preamp stage.
Most caps will say the voltage right on it. You can go higher but not too much.Ceramic will take more volts than film?

You mean 474M which is 470nF. Unless they are defective I wouldn't change them. They were quite high quality film caps.No microphonics...good tanF...
This would be a close modern replacement - much smaller size but why do you want to change them in the first place?

My instinct is to keep them, I’m changing the electrolytics and perhaps a couple of transistors if there on the problem child list as part of a renovation. Cheers for this, I was mainly trying to identify a replacement construction wiseYou mean 474M which is 470nF. Correct, yes it is indeed a phono stage50V (although that doesnt indicate the AC or DC voltage).

don`t forget to change the orange top tantalum bead cap C901, C902, they are always trouble
Hi everyone and yes, Marantz, sorry been away with Covid !!! Terrible week
hi, thanks for this, I would of overlooked these in all honesty, do you have any suggestions on a preferred replacement?don`t forget to change the orange top tantalum bead cap C901, C902, they are always trouble
Manual says 1uf 25v electrolytic, I had a couple of muse 50v 1uf bipolar, so I’ve fitted those
the service manual and schematic has a few contradictions so I’ve got capacitor anxiety 😟
