I have a pair of SB26STCN tweeters looking for a mid-bass and crossover. I'm assuming the SB26STCN could stand in for similar SB26 tweeters with a slight mod as necessary. I don't have the tools to design a crossover so would be dependent on an existing crossover, so I have attached the various choices. I'm open to using either the SB15MFC or SB17MFC depending on your opinions on each driver and your opinions on the crossovers in the existing designs that use them.
If necessary I could use a NRX part or one of the other SB26 tweeters, but the MFC version would be a little easier. Smallish room, lower listening levels, classical, opera and jazz, SE 2a3 tube amp which works fine with smaller 2-way bookshelf speakers. Don't need too much power or deep bass.
So hoping for some recommendations here. My all means include any other SB15/SB17 designs I haven't mentioned.

I have a design with the SB15MFC and 26STCN. I'll send you the pdf when I get home.
Hi, and why not both of two worlds with a 6"
Look at the SB16PFCR25-8
More confortable power response for the Bafle step, breakups higher too as well as cheap.
Doable with a 2k hz BR18 with no BSC and a narrow front baffle ?
http://www.mh-audio.nl/Calculators/CBBC.html
You have to know the impedance of the two drivers at 2k hz for a simple symetric XO to simulate the filter values. The stcn has been measured by our ukrainian fellow in Diyaudio, but I do not know for this midwoofer.

That's actually bigger than the SB17! But it's quite a non-standard midbass, so I'd prefer to stick to the more widely used units. It's true that the FR is flatter, that's noticeable.Hi, and why not both of two worlds with a 6". Look at the SB16PFCR25-8

Yes - I saw that one. It's the SB15NRX rather than the SB15MFC. How well would a SB15NRX crossover work with the SB15MFC? Would it be usable?
Compare their spl responses reading the datasheets around the xo cutoff to see if close as well as the impedance here. Could be close as it is the same motor. The MFC is very low distorsion driver.
What you need for such swap is the impedance of the two drivers to be close at the cut off in order the XO has the same frequency cut off.

I used to have some MTMs with the SB15NRX mk1 (there are newer revisions, I believe).
I don't recommend them. I didn't love the sound. Average at best in bass and midrange. I wouldn't bother with that range; you have many other alternatives.

I haven't bought a mid-bass yet, so I'm wide open to suggestions for a 2-way with 150mm 6" or 165mm 6.5" units. Has to have a good crossover so I can build it. I've seen crossovers for these:at iso budget I woul has chosen a Peereless...
- Peerless 831735 6.5” or 830875 Nomex with Vifa XT25TG
- Peerless HDS PPB 830860 + ScanSpeak D2604/830000 Troels
- Peerless 830991 5” + Vifa XT25BG60-04
- SEAS ER15RLY + 27TBCD/GB
- SEAS U16RCY/P (H1520) + SEAS 27TBCD/GB
The Revelator units are too expensive for me so that excludes all those designs.
Do any of the above appeal? Or suggest another 150mm/165mm 2-way?
Vifas will be ancient, hard to find, and may need refoaming - don't bother.
830875 Nomex look good, but went out of production and are hard to find.
ER15 - not aware of any published designs with these; don't think they do much bass.
U16 + DXT - now I think this looks really good https://www.audioexcite.com/?page_id=2386 - consider this one
CA15 - Troels' design is public now http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/SEAS_5INCH.htm

And another mini from Troels with the 15W Discovery http://www.troelsgravesen.dk/Ellam-Discovery-15.htm
From another recent thread: this ER15 design seems to be thought out well.
And if you are into Seas, the Idunn is not a bad choice (some say the U18 does bass a lot better than the U16).

The SB17 motors are really good but I dunno for the SB15. The 17mfc is imho good...easy to work with and low distorsion . But certainly the SBs are becomming challenging in a 2 ways?, the sb17 cac is loved by some but i did not list it cause the budget...breakups need to be tamed or crossover must be lower than the SB tweeter of the op.I used to have some MTMs with the SB15NRX mk1 (there are newer revisions, I believe).

You are rigth, all that those cool ref from Peereless that becomes NLA...too bad. Good list you did .
I remember Wolfteeth member hhaving great exprience with the hds if I am not wrong.
The challenge is Andy has to take care also of the bass in a 2 ways...quite challenging and also the impedance as well with a 2A3 amp (8 ohms prefered?)
Thanks guys. I'm seeing some love for the SEAS CA15RLY and the Curv U16 and U18. And Peerless 830991 and 830875.
Are these better sounding than the SB15MFC? That gets some good reviews too.

Out of interest, I used the enclosure tool in Vituixcad (tuned flat) to compare the drivers' F3 sealed vs ported:
So I'd be inclined to reduce your list to the MFC, 830875 and U16, bearing in mind I personally don't like the NRX mk1, and maybe the NRX mk 2 is better and might sound different depending on what they changed, but I've not heard it.

CA15 99 73 7.15

If wanting not to copy a design, maybe your countryfellow System7 member could help, he is found of two ways and he likes Seas drivers if my memory serves me well.
