Hello,
I need help calculating the AT33PTG/II compliance. The specs for the AT33PTG/ii show 10 x 10-6cm/dyne (100Hz), but someone pointed out the VE cart resonance evaluator requires compliance figures measured at 10hz.
Is this a low or medium compliance cartridge? My tonearm works best with medium to low compliance cartridges.
Best regards,

It's a medium compliance cartridge, at least that's how I would classify it. What arm do you have?

I want to buy a Sorane TA-1.
- Whole Length: 288 mm
- Effective Length (Tonearm pivot – stylus): 232 mm
- Practical Length (Tonearm pivot – Spindle): 216 mm
- Overhang: 12mm
- Offset angle: 16.5°
- Horizontal moving sensitivity: 30mg
- Vertical moving sensitivity: 20mg
- Vertical Tracking Force (VTF) range: 0 – 3 g
- Cartridge + Headshell weight range: 15 – 29 g ( 30g* Option)
- Height Adjustment (Plinth to arm wand centerline): 15 – 55 mm
- Vertical Bearing: Pivot miniature bearing (Not Pivot Contact)
- Horizontal Bearing: Miniature Radial Bearing
- Output plug: RCA (XLR : Option)
- Output cable: Single core shielded copper
- Tonearm Audio Lead wire: OFC 4N Copper
- Headshell lead wire: Copper with gold plated terminals
- Headshell: Machine tooled Aluminum
- Tonearm Net Weight: 580 g
Not familiar with Sorane, but looks like a very nice arm. Length wise, the TA-1 looks a bit like the old Jelco 750d. Should work fine, but the supplied headshell may be a bit on the heavy side. Why not send them an email: http://www.youtek.jp/sorane.html
Just as a point of reference, I run an AT33PTG/I on a Jelco 370H, which works great.

Lots of good used tonearms out there. Look on Yahoo Buyee to check out the Japanese market. I'm fond of the Victor (JVC) UA-7045 10" arm and the UA-7082 12" arm. Those arms would cost over twice what that Sorane arm goes for if built today. Plus they have on the fly VTF and anti-skating. Very easy arm to set up. VE has the manual for them, very worth while to read up on the specs.
There are a lot of Japanese tonearms that are quite good from the heyday of TT manufacturing, produced in large numbers so the price back than was quite reasonable. Today's arms are a nitch manufacturing product usually made by small company's and they charge a fortune for very simple items.

The AT33 compliance is quite easy to work out, multiply the figure given on V/E by 1.4 & 1.7 (this is a very rough ready reckoner) and the compliance is in that range, which is ideal for your arm.
I am always a little wary of Tonearm manufactures who do not quote the Eff Mass of their arms. As you correctly said it is important to make sure the cart & arm match. There are plently of arms around at that price or cheaper that give you the full information.
Cheers

Prior to posting this thread I did a search looking for what is available on the used market.
I am pretty sure most need to be rewired and some need new bearings, it is hard to assess the condition by looking at pictures, I have room in my plinth for a 9" tonearm only, so the JVC 7045 is out. AT 1005/1007/1010, MA-505, Sony PU-7/9, SAEC 308, Audiocraft 4000 and Stax UA-7.

You could always use an outside arm mounting pod to fit a longer arm, this is what I did.
The arm is 12'' a great match for your cart as it's Eff Mass can be changed (by swapping the head-shell) from 18 to 23 grams. I used to have a AT33 in my system several years ago.

I have been buying tonearms from Japan using Yahoo Buyee for about two years now and have never been disappointed. Look at the pictures carefully and see if it has corrosion, those ones I stay away from.

Thanks, I'll. I bought a mint Uesugi preamp on Yahoo Buyee, it was a great buy. The problem is, what arm is right for me.

I took the hint and nailed down a Victor UA-7045 tone arm. I line the on-the-fly VTA adjust.
I took one further step and nabbed an AT33PTG II cartridge to go with the tonearm...
Congrats, pretty sure you'll love that cartridge. Be sure to post up some listening impressions.

Hi, Make sure you get the SRA for both carts lines up correctly. They will have two totally different arm height positions.

Got my cartridge - now all I need is time to do the necessary diligence with the tonearm and headshell. I have a variety of step-up transformers that I can use to mate one of the MC cartridges I have with my current RIAA preamp.
Just wondering, you said this arm has on the fly VTF.....did you mean VTA?Lots of good used tonearms out there. Look on Yahoo Buyee to check out the Japanese market.
