I have a pair of a Proac DT8’s and was thinking if I could upgrade the tweeters in them.
pardon my ignorance since I am a total newbie And have no idea. I can solder tho.
the tweeter in my speakers is a scanspeak. From the pic below.

could I just replace it with this tweeter without any other modifications? https://www.scan-speak.dk/product/d2904-710003/
could the faceplate just be switched as well So it can fit?

Yes, you can exchange them. No, you cannot exchange faceplates. No it won’t be an upgrade really. Unless maybe you are willing to redo the crossover design. Some consolation, the standard D2604 does really well, as do a lot of dome tweeters. Spend your money on better speaker systems, on acoustics in your room. Or enter the realm of loudspeaker design and start to learn.

i am a musician of over 35 years.
so as with guitars I learnt to squeeze as much as you can from your instrument before you buy a more expensive one.
i have been doing the same with audio.
that is I have been doing measurements using REW in my room and spending endless hours with speaker positioning and room acoustics. I have made tons of progress.
if this makes sense, I can actually hear what my speakers can do finally.
now back to the speakers in mind.
is there no ‘ upgrade’ ( god I hate that word) for the tweeter to be a bit more revealing and have a touch more ‘ sparkle’ ?
i super appreciate you guys educating me btw

If nothing else the 2904 is 2.5db (94.5db/W) more sensitive than the 2604 (92db/W) so it would need attenuating to match the bass/mid.

i would like a touch more sparkle on the top end.
maybe more ‘ realistic ‘ timbre as well from the top.
to be honest the timbre is already good. But I would like to improve on it and add more sparkle as I mentioned.

Have a check at your high frequency hearing. The Proac should sound good.
The quality of a speaker is defined on the whole, not in the drivers alone. There can be excellent sounding speakers with "normal" drivers and really bad sounding speakers with premium drivers, the crossover will make most of the quality of a speaker. If you change the tweeter without redesigning the current crossover, you'll make the speaker sound worse, no matter how you are spending on the "upgraded" tweeter.
If for some reasons you don't like the Proac then buy another speaker.

I actually did test my hearing. did an audiogram
i can hear surprisingly well for my age (52) at 16.5khz for the highs.
i actually like the sound a lot of my speaker , just wanted a bit more sparkle on top as i mentioned before.
i thought I could add that without , or before buying a new set of speakers.
Two choices as I see it. You can remove some of the resistance from the tweeter to allow more output, with the compromise of messing slightly with the xo point or you can add a super tweeter.
again a total newbie here.
can’t I do that with a new and ‘ better’ tweeter so it also can be faster And more agile?

You saw D2604/830000 shallow depression spl area in the 10kHz range and it makes you lust for an improvement?

Most scanspeaks are quite flat on axis in the top octave, most also roll off there off axis, right where your hearing does.
EQ is your best bet, either analog or dsp. If you run a digital source through your computer, the tone/EQ programs(apps) are
already digital,so dsp.

yes
i have spent months literally on speaker placement, so I have just about squeezed all I can from my speakers to sound their best.
