It's Webb's sunshield that does the shading, not the shadows of the Earth/Moon.

The sunshield is intended to reflect the heat radiation from the Sun and Earth/Moon - so it's a good idea if those bodies line up behind the sunshield.

That is the reason that L2 is chosen as the location of the JWST.
Excellent, well explained.
Thanks, now I understand the actual reason they chose L2.
This reason is pretty hard to understand, at least for me.

Now I'm wonderin' if the gov'ment is worried about this movie being made:
https://theportalist.com/rendezvous-with-rama-movie

I can't wait for the enormity and complexity of Rama to be revealed through the magic of CGI. 😎

For those who haven't read Arthur C. Clarke's classic novel, Rama is a cylindrical starship, 21 miles in diameter and 31 miles long.

Rama enters our Solar System in order to perform a slingshot manoeuvre which sends it off in the direction of the Large Magellanic Cloud.

Only a short time is available to explore its many wonders, including its geometric structures which resemble buildings, its central sea and the massive spires of its propulsion system.

Tantalisingly however, Rama's builders are conspicuous by their absence. Only 'biots', hybrid biological and robot drones, maintain the vast starship.

My current Physics Book is intriguing: "Reality is not what it seems." by Carlo Rovelli.

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Carlo_Rovelli

We are talking "Loop Quantum Gravity" here. In which the very units of Space are quantised. Simply add a Quantum half factor of J(J +1) to Einstein's General 8 Pi Relativity. I went on record a few posts ago that we must reconcile Quantum Theory (Nobody understands it.). General Relativity (Nobody understands Black Hole Entropy.) and Information Theory (Which I understand along with Shannon Entropy.).

Chapter 12 is getting exciting, I knew it would involve Information Theory:

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Information_theory

Clearly the Standard Model is broken. String Theory is fanciful nonsense.

Alarmingly, there is a Chapter 13 in this fine book. "Mystery". 😳

"The Truth is in the Depths!": Democritus. I knew it wasn't going to be that easy.

Can't wait! 😀

What is a Canader?

//
My best guess is someone who comes from Canada!

I happen to know what lies between the 12th and 14th stories of a Banking building. CSFB in Canary Wharf, London.

Merely by coincidence. I was going up in the High Rise Elevator to the 20th Floor one Night. Alas the power failed at the 14th floor. 🙁

As the person in charge of this building of 4,000 people, I was equipped with all the keys and a torch. I quickly released myself from the Lift on the 14th. Emergency lighting reassuringly ON!

In case of Fire you head downstairs. The next floor was in complete darkness. I did not panic, but headed down to the 12th where the Emergency lighting was working.

Looking back on it, Floor 13 was a bit spooky. I never revisited it. I can't even prove it exists. 😀

I assure you I don't make stuff up!

As unwilling 3rd. Commander of our seven man Security team at CSFB, in occasional First charge of a building that was occasionally way beyond our understanding.

Platoon Mascot "Russell" unburdened himself to me one night:

This must have been 1998. He liked the Horses. He was familiar with the Low Rise B-10 and High Rise 10-19 Elevators.

"Steve", he said, "I can't believe I missed the Derby Winner this year. It was written in the Elevators: High Rise!"

https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/High-Rise_(horse)

20/1! I missed it myself! 😡

Past is dead and gone, future is uncertain. We live in the present.

I have been examining the prospects in the 2022 Epsom Derby:

I quite like "Walk of Stars".

https://www.skysports.com/racing/form-profiles/horse/1181440/walk-of-stars

"Star of India" has a similar appeal.

I think a quid on both looks a reasonable bet. I may be wrong. This is the greatest test of Horse and Jockey.
