Kef LS60 clone?

Leading contenders for full range the MAOP 7, for sure. Anyone seen off axis measurements for them, up to 45 degrees?

60 degrees would be better but KEF coaxial's work best up to 45 so that's a reasonable target.

This is as close as i’ve seen. A7.3. Note the significant y axis.

I'm concerned about the those 6 db pk to pk ripple in FR around 8 khz of the Tangband. I would hesitate to select a coax without detailed measurements that show how smooth its treble is and how equalizable its imperfections.

Fortunately for several of the KEFs these have been published on the review sites. Its surprising how inexpensive the R3 UniQ is.
The small SICA coaxes also show promise.as shown by Sigberg Audio. I picked up one of their 5.5" coaxes for a look see and an eval but I won't be able to do anything with it for some time.

I have some from a reliable source but I agreed not to share them. The woofers are pretty good mainly 2nd or 3rd with 5th and above 20 to 30dB lower than the 2nd, distortion rise at low frequencies is from 150Hz down for higher orders.

On the tweeters the 2nd order rises from 8k up and from 4k down, higher orders are very low mainly 30db below 2nd order until about 3K where they begin to rise.

No large breakup induced rises from the damped paper cone or obvious surround resonances. With a crossover in the 2 to 3k range all should be well.

Like any coaxial there will be on axis trouble in the 3K region that goes away by 10 degrees off axis, so balancing the off and on axis in the crossover is likely to need some trial and error to get right. These are a paper and fabric contender to go against KEF's own drivers and the one very expensive SEAS coaxial.

JBL 530’s are very nice. A steal at $220/pair.
I have a thread on them here.

I was thinking of modifying them to be synergy like but you know what, they sound pretty darn good stock - with 5ohms extra padding on tweeter. Easy since bi-ampable with dual binding posts standard.

That waveguide is very nice. The crossover is quite complicated and I am surprised they went to such great lengths for a budget speaker. It had like 18 components! (Which sort of means the drivers were not the most well behaved?)

The crossover alone seems to indicate that this was meant to be a true studio monitor in the $600+ range.

Maybe place it on a slob?

This is how my LS60/blade clone concept has evolved. This came about after I spent a couple of hours viewing @noamgellers photos from the Munich high end show; square corners just didn't look right after that.

I added 18mm thick mounting rings for the Misco XBL2 6.5" woofers to space them out enough to fit the 150 mm thick cabinet and then rounded the corners for aesthetic purposes. I would use kerfed or bendy plywood for the corners; its currently 118 mm radius. The next step in the evolution I think will be to join those pairs of mounting rings on each side into ellipses so the coax driver sees a rounded edge.

The misco drivers have enough displacement to be used sealed. The alternate 5..25" drivers require a vented alignment for which the vent requires very careful and advanced implementation if its pipe resonance isn't going to be visible in the direct response.

I wish I had time to build these...
