My system now is blumensteinaudio orcas and an svs sub. The orcas go down to a few hundred Hz I'm guessing.
I'd like to add a pair of woofers in separate enclosures to handle the low end, and maybe get rid of the svs sub. It's a small space and I don't play loud. I'd be using the Pass active crossover network from the diyaudiostore.
I can't seem to find any. There are small (8") subwoofers like this, but I'd like to hear from you about that. Blumenstein sells, some, but they are very expensive and use a cheap dayton ($30) driver.
Power would come from either: threshold s/200 (100w per side), bridged monoblocks apt holman (200w per side), or subwoofer amps (bash 300s)

1 cu ft flatpacks from madisound or parts express? Pick your driver based on whether you want to go sealed of vented. Or, design your own and have them ripped out of nice plywood as a flatpack ready for glue-up.

I saw some mdf + subwoofer driver combos at PE. Didn't see anything at madisound, except an LX project that was out of stock due to lumber prices.1 cu ft flatpacks from madisound or parts express? Not looking to design my own
Can you elaborate?
For 2 cabinets and drivers, $1000. I already have amps. What kind of budget do you have?
I was thinking of these speakers that Dave designed. A small TL with 2x 4-5" woofers per box, with a small speaker sitting on top. With the FF85WK, they were quite good. He would probably share the design for a small fee.

If you have the ones with FE83 in the neighborhood of 150 Hz is the limit at the bottom with a decent alignment.
If you are anywhere close i have 2 give away encosures and sets of Thirmere R with CHBW70eN that would be perfect (but to get the box you need to buy the drivers). They are too big to ship.I'd like to add a pair of woofers in separate enclosures to handle the low end, and maybe get rid of the svs sub. It's a small space and I don't play loud. I have some designs for 2x Silver Flute W14 (they are superb & dirt cheap).Blumenstein sells, some, but they are very expensive and use a cheap dayton ($30) driver.
Beware subWoofers… you need something that reaches higher than a typical sub does to ensure a good blend between FR & bass helper.
There are many possibilities if you can diy your own.
The Threshold should be superb, the Apt will do, but they are a bit hazy, not sure how high the bash goes, but a good CLass D anmp can be superb for woofer use.Power would come from either: threshold s/200 (100w per side), bridged monoblocks apt holman (200w per side), or subwoofer amps (bash 300s)
Nelson’s XO is very good.

MDF is an especially bad material for building subwoofers.I saw some mdf + subwoofer driver combos at PE.\
You can get decent custom flaytpaks from Bob Berner at BigWood Studio (with a delay at the moment, he is awaiting a new CNC).

Big budget. 4 x SDX10 would eat that budget, but way overkill for your needs i would think. For 2 cabinets and drivers, $1000.

Scott actually did the basic design work, i used that to detail boxes to our needs.I was thinking of these speakers that Dave designed. A small TL with 2x 4-5" woofers per box, with a small speaker sitting on top.
The freebies have 2 x 6.5/7” (EnABLed) in each cabinet (one reflex, one ML-TL) and Thirlmere is one of Scott’s BVRs.
As Jeff alludes we have had good success with implementations of helper woofers. And ot sof designs, some free, some cost a token amount.

I had a look at PE. It's pretty slim pickin's for knock-down speaker boxes. Mostly kits by the looks of things.I saw some mdf + subwoofer driver combos at PE. Didn't see anything at madisound, except an LX project that was out of stock due to lumber prices.

Nothing wrong with spending less than budget.Big budget. 4 x SDX10 would eat that budget, but way overkill for your needs i would think.

Dayton RS225 is also a good driver for this, and is used in a waw with a small fullrange by XRK971 in a few different designs: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/10f-8424-rs225-8-fast-waw-ref-monitor.273524/
I use a pair of Scanspeak 26W/8534 in 77L sealed cabinets, those are easy to build but maybe a bit to large for your application.
The SB23MFCL45 is also a very good driver for that, just like the drivers that Dave mention. basicly you want a driver that can go loud and low enough and that has a clean resonance free response to +500Hz.

I don't know jack about this, but two 8 inch per side, one on top of the other with a cap rolling off the highs of the lower one (a 1.5 arrangement), in a sealed cabinet with qtc between .5 and ,7 would probably sound pretty good. But, I don't know.
