I have some KG1.2 2-way speakers (8 ohm) with dead woofers. Unfortunately, finding good K-1007-K drivers is not possible, unless I want to buy some KG1.2's with cosmetic issues and just use the woofers ... but that doesn't make $$ sense.
Rather than relegate these to the dump, I'm thinking about just replacing the woofers with cheapies from Parts Express and use these in my garage workshop where sound quality isn't a big deal.
I'm hoping someone here can chime in on things to consider, like the crossover point, which is 2200Hz. The two electrolytic caps are KSC 20uF/25uF, 100 VDC, 10%. I can get film replacements fairly cheap at PE.
Part of the problem may be the plastic front baffle. The tweeter opening is part of the plastic baffle. So if I were to make mdf front baffles, I'd have to deal with that ... or maybe just get "matching" tweeters for the woofers from PE. But then I get into crossover design, which I have no clue, and honestly, it's not something I'm planning on doing more of.
The oem drivers do not have an ohm rating on them and since they are dead, I can't get a reading. The baffle opening for the woofer is 5.75". Here is the woofer I'm looking at: GRS 6PR-8 6-1/2" Poly Cone Rubber Surround Woofer

I haven't heard of that manufacturer ... but I would guess Klipsch sourced out from some company. They sure didn't invest in a long run of these.
Based off what the speakers are, I'm hoping to find something under $25 per speaker.

I have never heard of that brand, so when I first searched for that speaker, it was showing up on ebay overseas and I made that assumption. After looking up again, I see it's a part of Rockford in Michigan, but looks like the company is still in business.
The cone and surround look very much like the CG-168R I once owned, but the voice-coil dia looks 25mm/1inch instead of 38mm/1.5". Also, the magnet assembly looks different.A very capable mid-woofer, so if you could get a pair second/third hand, go for it.
I have been talking with a tech support person at Parts Express and this Goldwood woofer appears to be the best option they have.

The dimensions for the basket and baffle opening are good, and to be honest, since it appears that finding oem new or used woofers will be like finding hen's teeth, it's better to put a "good" woofer in so the speakers can be used, is better than letting them languish.
I'm still open to ideas if someone sees this ... I may make a decision in the next few days.

Update on this ... I talked with someone at Simply Speakers and found out this woofer is 4 ohm ... so I ordered a pair of these:

I also ordered some Dayton Audio film caps to replace the two electrolytic caps on the crossovers. I plan to first install the drivers to hear the sound quality ... then update the crossovers to get a comparison.

Ken, let me know how this woofer/driver replacement went. I'm in the exact same situation on a Klipsch KG-1.2v. both speakers were working fine. Took them to a friends house while he was waiting on some speakers. When his came in I brought them home. Hooked them up to an Onkyo and out of the blue one of the speakers had no bass and only weak treble. I flipped the right and left channel speaker leads and the problem remained on the left side so I know it is speaker related. I will replace both speakers woofer/driver I just want to know how you liked the speaker that simply speakers recommended.

Hi Mike, yes, I did. I wish I could have heard the original woofers for comparison, but no such luck. A buddy of mine has them now and is loving them. I enjoyed them for awhile before they moved to his place ... I was impressed for the value.

Wow, thank you for the response and pictures as well. they look great. And yes those caps look like they were a tough fit. I wish I could hear them. I do know before the driver in the one speaker went they sounded exceptional for their size. I guess I will do the same. I have other speakers and systems, but I can't see throwing them away or scrapping them. I kind of like bringing them back to life. I was surprised when I opened the bad speaker up to find 10-12 way dead honey beas inside the case. no damage just dry corpses. Vacummed them out before I inspected and found no damage whatsover from them. thanks again I will ldownload your pictures for reference.
