300W Vs. 500W subwoofer?

Hi all!

I am looking to make a 8" subwoofer and amplifier.

I have a 200W audio amplifier, which I was looking for advice on in this thread 200W amplifier design .

Does anyone have any good speaker companies? So far, I'm leaning towards skaraudio.com daytonaudio.
I'm thinking of getting their 8" 300W subwoofer.

When I have a 100W amp for a subwoofer, is a 300W subwoofer good? Would a 500W subwoofer sound better even though the amplifier is only 100W?

Thanks in advance!

The power rating is only one specification out of many that can make for a "good" subwoofer.
Sounding "good", or "better" won't be determined just by the power rating, but by a combination of many parameters that can help determine cabinet design, size and potential sound pressure level, and frequency response available from the combination of driver and cabinet.

I'm driving 3 12" sonotubes and one isobaric subwoofer with a 35 year old 35 wpc onkyo receiver to room deafening levels. It's all about multisub room placement to "fill in the holes" in the lf sound field. Probably flat response to <20 hz, even at moderate volumes

It's a thermal rating, how much it could theoretically handle before overheating.
You could exceed the mechanical limits long before that in some boxes, a simulation is helpful to see the limits.
Sensitivity is probably more of a concern for you, some require a lot more in that regard. Other parameters will tell you what box that is suitable, but after that you'll need either advanced measurements, subjective opinions of others, or better yet to listen to them yourself.
