Has anybody gave a thought about soldering fumes ? I remember my father said that these fumes are comparable to a "fumes that originate from welding". Welding fumes are super dangerous actually. Companys with a little success are replacing humans with AI welding robots.
Soldering and welding, both are pretty much robotized. It is that dangerous. You can even exhaust it... it does not help... environment backfires everything... EMI effect 😀
Soldering > be it lead free or whatever solder, as soon as metal melts its over, heavy metal molecules will learn to fly, then they will overflow ur system and most important, a brain and after a good years of soldering its gg to ur input and output systems, including brain capability, sound, acoustical perception, everything.
Life will turn from REDish-Green-Bluish color to dark-matrix styled lightly colored lifestyle. It will take time, but everybody will experience it no matter where you live.
So, maybe we should somehow re-think our amplifier assembly and do it environment friendly ?
Why we have SMD at all lol... some say its cost saving and saves space.. i would say that with SMD technology we can use AI to produce more, faster and better cash...
I think i am off the voodoo **** now too...
From my experience as a cigarette smoker, then solder fumes are like 44x more dangerous to ur health system. Does not matter, if u inhale it directly or trought some filters or exhaust it entirely from the room.
And, TIN does make ur head "silently" dizzy, influencing the acoustical perception also.

And i also think that fukushima nuclear disaster has something to do with immunity deficity in other words AIDS-like diseas COVID and alike.
I think it impacted us heavily but was somehow covered as not as serious as chernobyl.
I mean, so many ppl are lazy cuz somehow that low-energy lol 😀...

I have been breathing in solder fumes for about 40 years and I am OK.
I try to not breath them in if possible.

I quite like the smell of a good 60/40 with Rosin flux! 😀 - but probably shouldn't inhale too much..
PS: Not sure if you are joking with the Fukushima stuff, but I hope so. Beside, coal power has poisoned and killed something like x1.000.000 more people than nuclear power.

I have an incredible problem with short term memory after a career breathing in lead fumes from soldering. As a child I was known as 'the walking encyclopaedia'. I do not used lead based solder any more, but I do still work on a lot of vintage units with lead based solder.
I'd say it is a great outcome for an individual if they haven't noticed they are impaired by something that has affected their cognition, and probably not that surprising.
I've participated in university research into changes in memory performance over time and I am acutely aware of changes in mine. I've forgotten what I was going to say next....

Use ventilation, and work on the suction side of a small panel fan.
Most soldering is now by machines, very few of us doing repairs or kits by hand.

Soldering fumes are not like welding. Welding ( I do that too) has vaporized metal as well as contaminants and flux.
Solder is just the flux and any outgassing of the board or packages. Not good for you which is why in industry we have carbon filter blowers at solder stations. Lead, tin or silver, do not vaporize @ 800 degrees.
Many assemblers in the old days got lead poising from straitening the solder leas in their mouth, or later just from transmission from hands to mouth.
So, best to work in "well ventilated area"

I had made a diy fan setup to help exhaust fumes, but later started to use a 3m paint mask.
Its the heavy duty, 1/2 face with replaceable filters kind you can find at home depot.
Soldering had started to bother me, but not after I started using a paint mask.

You want the carbon cartridges for the organic fumes from the flux.I had made a diy fan setup to help exhaust fumes, but later started to use a 3m paint mask.

Thanks for the correction, it is not likely that any exposure to lead comes from solder fumes, but possibly from handling solder. Many assemblers in the old days got lead poising from straitening the solder leas in their mouth, or later just from transmission from hands to mouth.
Okey my father was wrong and too afraid that i was soldering in the same room were he was sleeping 😀 But he cursed me, the day he woke up in the room full of my LEAD FREE smoke 😀
I always loved to think that body will find its way to filter toxins out.
Maybe i am poisoned or something, sucked out joy of life
But TIN do make person a little dummer imo...fumes have some effect on the brain... and sometimes its pleasant lol, especially with a PSY TRANCE type music.

"organic" poisoning? Maybe
HEAVY METALS poisoning?
Forget it.
And many of them don´t let you live long enough in any case.

Plumbers and their open flame soldering are a different problem though, but none of us does that.
BUT I am quite worried by rosin/flux fumes, they often contain "rosin activators", some of which are very nasty.

The heavy metals most commonly associated with poisoning of humans are lead, mercury, arsenic and cadmium. Heavy metal poisoning may occur as a result of industrial exposure, air or water pollution, foods, medicines, improperly coated food containers, or the ingestion of lead-based paints.
That said, fumes at typical electronic soldering temperatures (hint: barely able to melt solder, let alone make it evaporate or sublimate) contain no lead, too cold for that.LEAD POISONING
Lead production workers, battery plant workers, welders and solders may be overexposed to lead if proper precautions are not taken. Lead is stored in the bone but may affect any organ system. The effects of lead poisoning varies depending on the age of the individual and the amount of exposure.
In children, symptoms vary depending upon the degree of exposure to lead. Some affected individuals may not have any noticeable symptoms. Symptoms usually develop over a three to six week time period. Lead overexposure may cause children to be less playful, clumsier, irritable, and sluggish (lethargic). In some cases, symptoms include headaches, vomiting, abdominal pain, lack of appetite (anorexia), constipation, slurred speech (dysarthria), changes in kidney function, unusually high amounts of protein in the blood (hyperproteinemia), and unusually pale skin (pallor) resulting from a low level of iron in the red blood cells (anemia). Neurological symptoms associated with lead overexposure include an impaired ability to coordinate voluntary movements (ataxia), brain damage (encephalopathy), seizures, convulsions, swelling of the optic nerve (papilledema), and/or impaired consciousness. Some affected children experience learning or behavioral problems such as mental retardation and selective deficits in language, cognitive function, balance, behavior, and school performance. In some cases, symptoms may be life-threatening.
In adults, overexposure to lead may cause high blood pressure and damage to the reproductive organs. Additional symptoms may include fever, headaches, fatigue, sluggishness (letheragy), vomiting, loss of appetite (anorexia), abdominal pain, constipation, joint pain, loss of recently acquired skills, incoordination, listlessness, difficulty sleeping (insomnia), irritability, altered consciousness, hallucinations, and/or seizures. In addition, affected individuals may experience low levels of iron in the red blood cells (anemia), peripheral neuropathy, and, in some cases, brain damage (encephalopathy). Some affected individuals experience decreased muscle strength and endurance; kidney disease; wrist drop; and behavioral changes such as hostility, depression, and/or anxiety. In some cases, symptoms may be life-threatening.
Lead is excreted in urine and feces. However, it may also appear in hair, nails, sweat, saliva, and breast milk.

Statements, good ones.
With LEAD, the impact is heavier for sure, but with non-LEAD i would say its the same 🙁 I have owned about 3kG of various LEAD free solder and 100g of LEAD solder. They just feel same to the skin, taste, touch.
We breath with lungs right ? But what if i say that we actually breath with every inch of our bodys, rhythmic breath (skins, eyes, eardrums, hair, veins), simply everything breaths and everything wants to live.
But TIN blocks that living 🙁 Transferring our minds into machines.
A good soldering connection will create 3rd metal besides tin and copper, that chemical reaction is happening, atoms bonding together... so, one still thinks no vaporized metals leave soldering area ?
I wonder, why they dont produce good quality breadboards, it would be so easy to bend wires, transistor legs and so on in different shapes and just try "insert in and insert out" method... And if works just leave it and try something else. Gold plating, silver plating, various thickness.
DREAMS, what happens to the dreams when you solder all day long... DREAMs become short and eventually disappear.
in general(electronics assembly, industrialism)., crossed the line here i think.
Guys, can someone delete my last post 16? Thinking about it, its just so mad imo... i think i have formed 2 personality s in my head... One is good(PRO everything) and the other is EVIL(against everything).
It happened when i reed the bible, who is gonna win, i dont know. It happened a year and few months ago... and its sucks.
