i'm having an issue with the 6.5 speakers, they get a lot of water on them because of poor VW door design and this actually gets a bit in the car when raining.
i've found a special sort of cloth membrane (some poliurethane from a clothing factory) which is 100% waterproof and want to wrap my 6.5 speaker in it, but this material doesn't let air go thru also.
does anyone know or have any idea how the speaker will perform? (material will not make any noise/vibrate it's very soft and has a side which is like a cloth)
i'm interested in what way will the sound be affected? will get worse? will get better mid-bass? the air behind the cone will push the cone back and obtain unwanted sound reprodution?
any idea?

Interesting. To some degree this material may act similarly to a passive radiator but I'm concerned that it may reduce bass if it isn't compliant enough. It's certainly unusual.
i will try to wrap around the speaker chassis for the cloth not to wobble, but if air doesn't get from one side to the other, doesn't it mimic a sealed enclosure box?

I sprayed my Eminence alpha 6c with Scotchguard and fitted rain guards above the drivers. Iirc they were semicircles made of closed cell foam.
Not if it moves. If it doesn't then the enclosure might be too small. If it partially does/doesn't move then you may have unpredictable results.
Then again it might sound alright.

Ideally, you should fix the door with some silicone seal to be water proof again.
Cars are meant to be rain proof, they are designed so, and tested. If there is water leak, its a defect which should be fixed first.
Then it does not matter what speaker you use.
Start with a car audio or marine speaker and try and build a baffle that would deflect rain around it rather than trying to enclose it as most of these speakers have a Q that doesn't suit enclosures.
