Yeah, 'blast from the past'! I keep the article on my Flickr page. Me and a couple friends built a number of these and being only age 10 with a meager driver selection we still got Cub Scout Merit badges for them and frankly, I liked ours better overall compared to the neighbor's Karlson K15 kit I've mentioned on occasion.
In retrospect, the K15s super strong [mid] bass XO'd to our 'FR' driver baffles might could of been a pretty good mono HIFI combo! I shutter to think how much such a low XO would have cost though!

wow GM - that was really hip for age 10 - do you think it could compete with EV's "Aristocrat"?
I only made one of Weems projects - a pair of foo length i-line for 12" wppfer and around 9 cubic bulk. My plywood wasn't great. Initially it had a whizzer cone 8 mid and rectangular horn tweeter from McGee. Later I replaced the 8 with a 5" and the horn with two Phillips Mylar 1" dome tweeters. The 12" woofer was a Lafayette-perhaps Jensen with bell cover over its magnet. I loved the horn tweeter although it might not gone past 12K(--? I could hear to ~18K in those days)
I never heard a KLH Five but assume it would have trounced this t-line and woofer pick in every area.
Do you remember this speaker's article? I can't remember which horn I used -it was larger than a T35 for sure and likely the one for "$7.95"
I think the depth was 20" not 18"

I really enjoy these, hrrm, 'older' DIY audio articles and projects; home hi-fi looked like it could actually be fun and not just about technical perfection.

No clue as at that point in life Jack's K15 was the only non console speaker in any of the homes I was ever in (most only had radios, TV like us) and after we moved two years later my exposure to any audio/electronic magazines was limited to some brought in by students in high school and by graduation was firmly entrenched with Altec, Heathkit, so ATM can't recall any other 'el cheapo' DIY speaker designs I did other than my scaling off pictures with a Pantograph till I hooked up with Ron, the one armed guy that was 100% fixated on all manner of cardboard tube TLs and willing to share his hard won knowledge.
Indeed! Jack had originally planned to do one, but the allure of the K15s 'far out look'/technicality was just too strong to resist, so didn't get to try Cohen's 1/8 WL BVR until my intense 'research' in '68, though didn't have the plans, just his write-up in his '56 book, so cobbled one together based on Altec's small box size for the 416A out of one of my DIY A7-500s.
