I’ve never actually used filters on a forum before. Typically the default of unread by last post date is all I care about. Anything more specific I just search. We are not really happy with how the whole filters thing is working, and I agree sort order should be more accessible. For phase 2 we may ditch filters and definite categories and swap to using tags, but much research work has to be done before then.
Thanks. I have removed the entire commercial sector block from the mega menu. The link to vendor forums is still not working.
Ian
The entire "commercial sector" block was not meant to be there - it has been replaced by the always visible Marketplace tab to give it more prominence.
Maybe a "dense" theme could be added that removes all this padding and vertical whitespace.
Noted and being considered for the future, after we've gone through each theme on desktop and mobile and made the aesthetic changes we already want to make which will result in better visual hierarchy, scan-ability, and probably more density as well (certainly not less dense!).
Theme and sidebar options are intended to be for all visitors not just logged in. This is a bug and has been logged.Works Full-width if I'm logged in but....I check several forums and reply/contribute where appropriate.... why do I now need to be 'logged in' just to view DIYAudio in a user friendly way ??
Please post any specific broken links here: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/threads/broken-links.380497/Totally agree. This is really unfortunate. I'd was about 1/3 of the way through the incredibly long 10F/8424 & RS225-8 FAST / WAW Ref Monitor thread & now it's become virtually incomprehensible with so much of the image content not visible. Can this be fixed, please!!!
One example of each "genre" of broken link is fine. Thanks.
I rarely log in to any site I post on, when using mobile. I'm often using incognito by default, and dealing with password managers is mind numbing so I avoid it unless I want to post.Nodody would log on unless you a) want to post something or b) check notifications and such, at least nobody I know.
As such, know that you are not alone, and I'll be working to ensure a good experience is able to be enjoyed by all regardless of login status.
That would be because you are going back to the same page you were looking at before, not having a new page constructed. This makes it much faster. I'm not sure if there would be a HTTP caching header to force a reload, but I don't think having to wait 1-2 seconds just to have a title change boldness would be worth the benefit, for most situations. When using the 'back' button in the browser, the thread you just visited doesn't change from unread to read (fat font to normal font) until you do a manual refresh.
It should, and I was told presently it does so via using a server session variable. However I'm not sure how long lived this will be. We also can not collect any stats on how many people are using what theme, which would be useful to know.I described this a couple days ago. When not logged in, the site defaults to "Light" theme. It only goes to "Classic" theme, which I selected the first time I logged in, after logging in again. Why can't it use cookies to remember the desired theme? Other websites do it.
I've started a ticket: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/...ogged-in-does-not-persist-long-enough.380603/
Did the old website remember your settings via cookie? Sounds like it did. It seems this one does not and just shows default settings to anyone not logged in.
The widget I created to store your front page posts setting used a cookie.
Other vB controlled stuff was stored in user data variables in the database.
The current site uses a session cookie (a small token, that allows access to a bigger data set stored for a longer time on the server itself). This is still ephemeral by nature, but is much more performant because you aren't throwing a kitchen sink full of settings to and fro with each page load.
Agree, I think and use websites the same way as you, especially on mobile.I'm an old-fashioned IT guy and still adhere to IT rule #1 : Use lowest possible access rights to do the job. If I can read posts without login (as this is a public forum) it's incomprehensible to use higher access rights than needed. I don't login as root on my linux machines either, unless really required.
Beautify/UI options should bind to cookies, not only to log-in state, for the same reason.
On mobiles, login is tedious for me (I'm very bad/slow at typing on a mobile and avoid it as much as I can).
The primary theme is not going to change to the classic themeNot even close to the same, but you know that. Typical standards today are that personalizations bind to un-authenticated states only if that is the intended default state, or only state.
Regardless, if @Jason wants to pursue this I personally hope it can be done without changing the public default theme to classic.
When I have time, I will be personally working on making the classic theme even closer to what it used to look like.
The new light and dark themes are for those who want to move on with a more modern look (and I note again that how they look now is not how they will look in 2 months, we have a lot of work to do, and launched prematurely without perfect aesthetics but as soon as we were sure everything was working and all core functionality was in place).
And to think I used inline references to DIYA hosted images because I thought they would be more robust and less prone to broken links in the future (future proofing). I do hope this gets fixed because there are literally hundreds of images that are important to the build and construction of this and other projects that reference inages from DIYA.
Please post any broken links in the dedicated broken link thread, ta.
Sorry about that. Fixed it by removing the whole "commercial sector" block, which was redundant, and has been replaced by Marketplace. Everything to do with buying or selling stuff is now in Marketplace.+1 Where are the vendor forums? The link to them in the menu is broken.
Vendors and Manufacturers have been merged into one single forum now called Vendors. It was always a bit confusing to have them split by what was sometimes a subjective term.
We will be improving the marketplace early next year. We will be reaching out to all existing individual vendors in due time, about the changes and our plans for the future. Any vendors who would like more prominence in the marketplace are welcome to contact the helpdesk if they would like some changes made sooner rather than later.
I don’t see my SCG thread in the Pass Labs forum showing up on the front page with new posts. Not that I need the extra attention but thought I might point it out. Maybe it is a setting I have missed?

XenForo has notifications I believe for Android, but not iPhone. I'll look into that.Sad to see Tapatalk not supported anymore. While the web interface is equivalent, Tapatalk has the advantage of native notification right on the phone. Getting notification emails is just not the same (and doesn't seem to work at the moment)
It's in the top RHS of the only page I thought you'd want to use it (this was my decision), which is: https://www.diyaudio.com/community/whats-new/posts
However if it has practical purpose elsewhere, please let me know and we can make it more accessible.
Thanks. Now I see where my problem is. In mobile Chrome and on a PC as well, I have a problem locating the New Posts link. Once I find it and get used to it, it should be fine. I actually thought the News feed in the user menu is the New Posts page - but it is not - I would love to have the New Posts page instead of the News Feed, which gets me to /Community/
I would love to have the button / function on the page that the news feed points to or in my user menu somewhere below the news feed.
Wow ! Thanks Captain Jason !! Will await with bated breath..... (might bait with bacon...🙂 )@Jason Theme and sidebar options are intended to be for all visitors not just logged in. This is a bug and has been logged.DRONE7 said:

Re size of email notification... I suppose I could turn off email notif and only rely on the bell indicator if I wanted?I think I like it with more. Less traffic to the forum through because you can see the whole post, so perhaps less interaction as well. If more people complain, we'll look into it.

Jason, XRK is writing about broken images (hundreds of them), not from broken links. I posted a broken "image-link" (of an internal hosted image) in the other thread, but the answer was "Thanks, but that's a broken image - I have a few of those to look into." In fact, there must be thousands of such broken images. I think this is a much bigger problem than the issue with the broken links.
Well done and thanks for the work.
The search function is way better now, but I think it can still be improved. Something I would like to see is an expanding dropdown for advanced search instead of a separate page. Often I don't need that many granular options. Options for searching I usually use are restricting the search to Forum>Subforum; basic Sorting by date and relevance. Expanding the dropdown via a button for "more advanced basic search" would be interesting.
The second thing I would like to see is having more posts on one page, I don't know if this is possible but would be nice to have. I often use the CTRL + f search when scanning through pages and jump from one occurrence to the next and it is way easier if I don't have to do that for 50 pages.
Best Fabian

"Totally lost the plot, can't find my way around the new site."
I have the same impression as batty - a couple of post above !
The "new design" is: "childish colorful, incoherent, absolutely hard to navigate, unprofessional, untrustworthy..."
It is a horror.

I would like to see an icon for the country of origin, especially in the for sale marketplace. It looks like you have the members icon twice, so maybe the small one on the left could be a country icon.
Thanks for the hard work.

You‘re sure it’s not just „old-style-deprivation“?"Totally lost the plot, can't find my way around the new site."

@Jason: Thank you for the reply. I only reported this because it is a step back compared to the old site. It works fine if I click on the forum-link, top or bottom, but then I have to scroll down to where I was at. Are there still people connected to the internet via modems? A refresh should only take a few ms.
😆
Well done - amazing effort!! The look and feel is much nicer. Love the way it's easier to post images...I do have a few suggestions:
Great work though and thank you!!
- remove the down arrow to the left of posts. Below the member. I miss the country flag, the join date etc just being there. What are the three dots to the RHS of the join date?
- I've found a couple of times posting using the new site that I've often not actually posted...then come back later to check and no post. probably just me but maybe make the 'post reply' button a completely contrasting colour to the rest of the palette once you have started typing a response
- I miss the scalability of the old homepage. Uncategorised latest posts, one line of text, no fancy graphic etc...scan down and click - simple. Now it's all a bit much with posters details and multiple lines and categorised. It always allowed me to find something new and interesting. I feel that this will be reduced now as I get sucked back into whatever category-du-jour I have going.
- Would be good to make more use of the screen width too
Great work though and thank you!!
Will there be a way to get to choose the number of posts per page? I was getting used to 50 posts per page...
Otherwise, great improvement overall! I'm using the classic style and I'm slowly getting used to the new look and functionality.
