Pleasant Edcor surprise!

I can’t believe it! I ordered a pair of Edcor GSE15 5K-8 transformers of the 26th of this month and they arrived today! I was expecting a two month not two week delivery time. I’ve heard everyone complaining about it. I’m thrilled. Maybe they have ramped production back up. I hope so for all involved. Nothing worse than waiting on one part to finish a project.

Their current estimates, on their site, are showing 3 months.

While I hope it is a sign of things catching up; it may, more likely be, that your order was submitted just as they were getting ready to do a run of that transformer. Even when things were 'normal' before, it would take at least a month for the transformers to be completed.

Or somebody had cancelled an order. It was either about to be made before the order went in, added to a run in progress, or already there. In any case, you got lucky and needed/ordered the right transformer. Ordered a different model you would still be waiting.

I know they cost a LOT more than Edcor but Monolith delivered in about 2 weeks a pair of S-11 OT. I got an estimate of ten day shipping on some custom PTs as well. Easy to order and communicate with as well. I'm in the USA.

I suspect he ordered on Oct 26.

I ordered on Oct 28, same transformers plus some CSXE25-5K transformers.

Estimated delivery date is Jan 20 to Feb 10, 2022.

I suspect that since I have ordered two different transformers, It will take longer to get them.

That is impressive, especially for an over seas order. Congrats on the impressive iron; I'd love to get to hear an amp with Monolith outputs someday.

A common thought with Edcor is that they do most of their work in large quantities for non-tube companies and just fit in our work around the other schedules. I don't know if it is true or not but it does tend to explain the fact that their usual wait times are at least a month.

By a lot more how much were they if you don’t mind?
Also Electra Print is quick but 5x as much for a better quality unit. He quoted about 2 weeks as well and we’re around $250 without a UL tap and over $300 with!

Holy cows, did they have to recruit vestal virgins to dig the copper ore out of frozen tundra? I know that parts are scarce at the moment but 😱. I’m about to pull order some customs wound pieces.
I think it is worth remembering that transformer and inductor manufacture is a relatively labour intensive process so I suspect the pandemic has had more of an effect on it than it has on many other electronic components.

Mind you, I find today that 2 and 3 pin Molex receptacles are on back order until mid 2022.

Cheers

Ian

I placed an order from Edcor for a pair of XSE15 5K-8 opts in January and it shipped 2 weeks later. A few months back I ordered a power transformer from them and it took a full two months to ship. My current order from Cinemag from early/mid May (a pair of input transformers and a pair of autoformers) still hasn’t been charged or shipped. My recent order from Electra-Print shipped a couple days after ordering.

Best advice is to not be in a hurry, unless it’s chokes or OPTs, then your best bet is with Electra-Print.
