Beyma 12LX60-V2

Please help a newbie out with setting up a subwoofer for the first time ever in life. I bought a Beyma 12LX60-V2 driver and need help choosing an amp and enclosure. Can you recommend some specific products?

With a resonant frequency [Fs] of 49 Hz it's strictly a mid-bass - up driver. As such, it's recommended 40 L/50 Hz tuning is fine.

That said, if you don't listen at high SPL, then an extended bass shelf alignment [EBS] with a ~112 L cab will allow a ~26 Hz lower limit tuning, which will require some EQ to blend well with the room.

No clue about modern electronics plus til we know your performance needs, room basics, folks can't really help nor whether an EBS alignment is even feasible.

Further depending on SPLs desired, a compact sealed box with some EQ would also yield decent results. The limited Xmax (compared to home HiFi subs) would put a limit on the SPL, but the motor force and power handling should allow a very small box - so long as you've got enough power.

If you are using the Onkyo AV as a subwoofer amplifier, then a RCA cable will connect from the AVR's subwoofer output to the Onkyo's CD input. Connect the subwoofer enclosure to the Onkyo's center channel speaker output with speaker wire. Make sure the Onkyo's center channel setting is LARGE so LFE signals will output to the enclosure.

If the Onkyo AVR is a 7.1, then you can use it to run 5.1 and subwoofer amplifier by using the rear surround channels for LFE. Set the rear surround to LARGE and connect the enclosure to one of the rear surround speaker outputs with speaker wire.

What is the model number of the Onkyo or post a pic of the back of it so we can see the speaker connections. You might be able to run 5.0 or 7.0 on speaker A and .1 on speaker B. Connect the enclosure to 1 of the speaker B connection with speaker wire.

The beauty of running an old 2nd AVR as a subwoofer amplifier is you have 5, 6, or 7 channels to run 5, 6, or 7 subwoofer enclosures! You got make sure all channels are set to LARGE so they'll send LFE to each channel.

LFE = Low Frequency Effects.

In my basement OFFICE, I'm running a 7.1 Onkyo HT-R570 at 5.1. I'm using a 2 channel Technics 100 watt receiver as a subwoofer amplifier to run a 18" bass bin and two 12" subs in a BP4 enclosure.

GM, it looks like that amp will manage 85w into 8ohm. I'd suggest that's unlikely to harm this particular driver, but agree that a modicum of caution should be exercised: start with the volume low, and turn it up.

My 12LX 60-V2 is in a tapped horn sub woofer and it has awesome output down to 35 hz. I'm driving it with a Behringer I nuke 3000 DSP, 31hz 24db/ oct high pass filter. It was designed and built by another member on here. Quite large at around 7 cubic feet!

Spoke to soon. Gotta read the fine print. I can't use Speaker B since it's only for analog output. I would have to use the rear surround channels for subwoofer duty. I need make sure I can make the rear surround channels LARGE while the other 5 channels are SMALL.

To run a 5.1 system with a single chassis:

1. The AVR has to be able to run 7.1 (might work with a 6.1 AVR).
2. Front speakers have to be set to LARGE.
3. Center channel can be set to SMALL.
4. Surround AND rear surround speaker(s) have to be set to LARGE to connect 1 or 2 subwoofers.

I actually run my front speakers LARGE with the Onkyo.

I might test this setup this weekend.

Hi GM. Unfortunately my Android phone can't open your attachment but I bet your SIM is producing considerable output!

Well, enough for most folks anyway, especially considering its minimal net volume [Vb], 80 W limit = 115 dB/m/1pi/20 Hz-up, though HR tends to be optimistic, so depending on room construction this may be closest to its 0.5pi/corner rating.

Obviously, 2x scaling it up will increase it if wanting more in the mid bass, though considering its power handling capability, probably better overall to just EQ in the extra ~6 dB/42 Hz-up.

Is that other member in Canada like I am? Mind posting a pic of your setup? I need an enclosure for my driver but don't have the tools or skill to build one myself.
