Has Anyone Purchased from Tevatronix (eBay/NY) and B+D Enterprises www.bdent.com/PA?

I ask since I am considering purchasing various power transistors (and some op-amps) from them and I would like to know if they are legitimate/reliable/safe sources.

For example, tevatronix is listing various MJ & MJL output transistors and BB/Ti OPA1612.

I've dealt with B+D Enterprises with good results as well. They helped me out with some obscure micro controller part for an HP 8903A at some point. That was probably 10 years ago as well.

Both TI and Mouser shows OPA1612 in stock, so why by from others?

I was looking at ordering a different part (a high speed differential amplifier) and I saw they had the OPA1612 for a good price. (Which could be added to the same order.)

Hence I wonder if they are a safe/good vendor. Otherwise I am putting together a Mouser order but am waiting on that one since a couple key parts are out of stock.

If you're waiting for key parts to become available at Mouser, I strongly recommend placing your order now. You can select to have them ship everything when all parts are available (one shipment). Or you can have them ship the parts as they become available (multiple shipments). If you order for over $100 you get free shipping on the entire order (even if they ship in multiple shipments).

Parts are going in/out of stock faster than I can type. There's a global shortage of electronic parts, mainly silicon but passives are harder to get too.

And, no. I don't work for Mouser or get kickbacks from them. 🙂

Odd, I just tried going to the checkout with my current mouser cart (over $100) and there doesn't appear to be free shipping?

Well I believe TEVATRONIX, which touts their high prices and Lewiston, NY. location, who repeatedly warns- NOT to deal with Chinese, China based vendors (due to counterfeit items) may actually be just another Chinese vendor (or drop shipper) a nontechnical vendor, like another hundred Chinese parts drop shippers….

I ordered about 75 VACTROL VTL5C 4 pin thru-board opto parts from TEVATRONIX, and in testing, I found that room light affected the results. The outer black plastic case did not shield the light sensitive cds cell. This, resulting in serious errors caused by ambient lighting. Such that when my hand blocked the room light (from a single 60 watt chandelier incandescent bulb) the resistance reading on the cds pins changed by a huge amount. This defect could introduce serious alignment problems as most vintage complex instruments that use these types of opto’s cannot be aligned in total darkness, but when the outer covers are replaced, the board is in total darkness (like the Sound Technology 1700, 1700A/B, 1701, 1710’s, or the HP-339A’s, etc. just to name a few).

I complained, I explained, but whoever TEVATRONIX is, they could not understand the problem, (or the defect). As a result, I can no longer buy from TEVATRONIX, the eBay error says something like: “The seller is no longer accepting bids or offers from you” - which I believe is a violation of NYS. or various FEDERAL LAWS (any lawyers here?). I will be checking on that next week.

I have only purchased from TEVATRONIX twice. First was OPA1611 and they measure (with a 60 dB LNA) like a genuine OPA1611. (I think that much is hard to fake.) Second were ON MJL3281A & MJL1302A which (when compared to known genuine ON 0281 & 0302) appear also to be genuine. The MJL3281A & MJL1302A did, however, appear physically to be pretty old complete with finger prints and tarnish/oxidation on some of the pins and tabs.

I have also been blocked (once in 22 years on eBay) by a different seller who sold me a defective product. It is pretty annoying but what can you do. The way I look at it I just buy from better suppliers now.
