Where does one buy speaker stands in the UK?
Should one have speaker stands? Are they essential? Beneficial?
I've got my Mordaunt Short MS35Ti speakers on my dining table while I do tests / construct my amplifier. But Eventually I'd want them somewhere else - maybe on speaker stands.
Do the mounting holes for the speaker need to match with the mounting system of the speakers?

Mordaunt Short offered a matching open frame stand for this model and its contemporaries.
The MS stand could be bolted to the screw fixings on the base of the speaker.
Such bolting is safe and convenient, but not necessary. Other stands of an appropriate height may be used.
I may be able to attach an MS brochure showing the matching stands.

It's important to select stands of the appropriate height to ensure the correct driver positioning relative to your ears when seated.
Here are the dimensions of the MS35Ti stand to help you search for a suitable alternative:
Stand model IS2: Height 422mm; Mounting Base Dimensions 310mm wide x 325mm deep.
P.S. M4 bolts screw into the inserts pre-fitted into the base of the MS35Ti.

Stands allow the speaker to 'breathe', thus ensuring a natural bass reproduction. Proximity to the floor or other boundaries will make your speakers sound 'bloated' in the bass.Should one have speaker stands? Are they essential? Beneficial?
And, as I said, the stands are selected to place the speakers at the optimum listening height. Usually the tweeter should be level with your ears when you are seated.

Mordaunt-Short recommends that the speakers (MS35Ti) be located at least 14 inches above the floor and away from the rear wall, and well away from the side walls.
These stands have suitable dimensions, but you may not like the price!

If you're good at woodwork, you can always build a sturdy pair following the dimensions I gave earlier.
OK, that's enough from me!

Oh! Just when you thought I'd gone, here's a correction!
The Mordaunt Short IS2 stand dimensions of 310 x 325mm are not the top mounting base dimensions, but the bottom base dimensions.
The base dimensions of the MS35Ti speaker are 260mm wide x 275mm deep so the top plate dimensions of the Atacama SLX 400 stands (225 x 225mm) are a good match.

Wow ok. So the standard MS stands are too short, they need to be nearly double the height.

The height of the stands for the MS35Ti should be around 40cm high as stated in post #4.
Your link shows a 60cm (medium) stand. A 40cm (small) version is said to be available, but it is not shown in the link - just an 80cm (large) one.
Anyway, the base of that stand is not wide enough to ensure stability with the MS35Ti speakers.
You don't want the speakers to topple over, do you!

A 40cm stand would mean that the tweeter is quite far below my ear, which is in contravention to what you said in post #5 "Usually the tweeter should be level with your ears when you are seated." A 40cm stand would mean the tweeter is approximately at my stomach height when seated.
I did say "usually"! However, in this case I would certainly go with Mordaunt Short's recommendation.
I have owned a pair of MS35Ti, but only briefly as they were too bass heavy for my then listening room.
Mordaunt Short recommend "at least 14 inches from the floor" and their dedicated stand is 42.2 cm (16.6") high. Go higher and you will encounter stability problems, as I will elaborate on below.
The size of the top plate affects the stability of the speaker on the stand. Before purchasing stands, check the size of the top plate and compare it to the size of the base of your speakers to ensure there’s good coverage.
In addition, the wider the base of the stand, the more stable the arrangement will be.
The bottom base of the stand should not be smaller than the base of the loudspeakers - the base of the Mordaunt Short IS2 stand is 1.2 x the base dimensions of the MS35Ti.
Stands suitable for a bulky speaker like the MS35Ti are harder to find and that's why I pointed you in the direction of the Atacama 400 to let you see the design of stand you would require. Atacama SLX 400 Speaker Stand Stands (Pair) - Black

I'm temporarily testing on some IKEA Kallax 2x1 shelves, height is approx 76cm, and tweeter is approx ear height. Can't hear any issues, but then I do have an ear infection / blocked ear.
If these are ok, I may roll with them - double up as bookshelves etc

Hello @michael,I have original stands for MS35TI and can sell.
I am interested. Could you please let me know about the price?
Many thanks,
Nick
I have a pair of MS35Ti too, and they are 54cm.I have owned a pair of MS35Ti, but only briefly as they were too bass heavy for my then listening room.

I have two brochures for the MS Series 2 speakers.
MS supplied two different frame stands for the MS35Ti.
The earlier one was the "High Definition Frame Stand"" of height 46.5 cm.
The later one was the "IS2 Frame Stand" of height 42.2 cm.
Michael, do your stands have a "Mordaunt-Short" badge on them?
P.S. There was also an early, low cost "Pillar Stand" which was the model I returned with my MS35Ti speakers. It was 38 cm high!
