America cup and Eurocup defined by penalties

Examples please. And not from the 1970s when the welsh front row had about 3 teeth between them. Now days with each pack at international level being some 750kg things are carefully watched. But you don't see them rolling around on the ground feigning agony from a tiny trip.

In the 70's in Europe, ha!

Your proposal is the same as I asked you if you have seen a punch to the teeth in the scrum of SIC (San Isidro Club) Vs. CASI (Club Atletico San Isidro)

Well I do, so my argument is totally valid.

(The two most powerful local teams here when I was going I was going to watch rugby play)

I did not like it and I will never like it.

Beast game for me.

The underhanded serve is not only not against the rules, it is a wonderful strategy when your opponent is caught off guard. Being a competitive player since I was a child, the underhanded serve was the serving version of the drop shop. It also came in really handy when I was no longer competing and along came the dislocated shoulder on my racquet hand.

You mean drop shot?

Or to go shopping on a rainy day ? 😀

hehe.

In these parts it's more like shop till ya drop. Just ask my wife.

Drop shot was one of my weapons, to the chagrin of the opponents, and used only when necessary. Overused it was quickly picked up on and turned against me.

But this is a thread about something other than tennis, so I will bow out now.
Cheers all

Sorry I thought we were talking international level sport here? Hell kids at my school used to sharpen their metal studs on concrete before going on the pitch. But since Rugby has gone professional and the size of the players has gone extreme a lot of things now get you a match ban. For better of for worse when you have a couple of 120kg slabs of meat charging at each other without helmets or padding you need new rules to prevent serious injury.

Nah Aussie Rules is a beast game. And a great spectator sport.

I also have to say that my knee was never the same after that 🙂

Having practiced soccer (very little, as a child, they broke my elbow joint due to a cunning offense and I abandoned it), cycling, swimming, rowing and tennis, I understand you. I accumulate bone problems, especially in the spine.
Injuries are inevitable, it is part of the tribute to pay for having given everything! (like Federer, Nadal, Djokovic) 😀

So that I’m not making an empty statement, let me explain my feelings. In the sports I enjoy, the players do everything in their power to hide an injury. In fact when a player fakes a penalty or an injury, a penalty is awarded against them. It’s called Unsportsmanlike Conduct and further qualified as Embellishment. While I enjoy football (soccer) as a sport, the fakery is beyond my ability to focus on the match. It is such a detriment that I believe the beautiful game should be renamed the ugly game. The most unsportsmanlike sport on the planet.

This covers it, fake injuries and crappy ending...pro soccer won’t even survive as a sitcom. My wife took a beginning acting class at a community college and when she showed up the entire soccer team was enrolled. This doesn’t even cover how bias and poor the officiating is. What to see legit soccer? Watch kids play.

I am generally impressed by the officiating in the NFL football. But then there are more officials. "Roughing the Passer", "Unnecessary Roughness" - 15 yards penalty. 😀

BBC works worldwide, I believe.

England in a spot of bother with Uefa following some disgraceful events at Wembley:

The FA has been hit with four charges surrounding the behaviour of fans.

They relate to disturbances caused during the national anthems, invasion of the pitch, the throwing of objects and the lighting of a firework by fans.

A few million pounds, one suspects. 😱

as we say in Europa, penalties are a lottery 🙁

Francisco (from Spain, of course)

You think?

Germany did not miss a single penalty between 1982 and 2016.

In 2016 it was nerves because beating Italy was the greatest price on offer for Germany in the Europeans that year, much greater than winning the actual tournament having NEVER beaten Italy in a competitive match before.

Penalties are easy. Everything is predetermined and therefore every player can practice them until they can score them in their sleep and every German player does including the goalie.

Even I can score 9 out of 10 penalties in a friendly match. It's another thing to score a penalty in a championship final or semi-final. History doesn't lie, Messi, Ronaldo, Mbappé, Maradona, ... all missed decisive penalties, when normally they are able to score with a blindfold on. Then there is the goalkeeper, who always has a 50% chance of guessing which way the ball will go...

Speaking of goalkeepers, Argentina's starting goalkeeper, Emiliano Martinez. Wow, I've never seen such a largemouth one on a pitch 🙂

And yet Germany did not miss a single competitive penalty in 34 years while being involved in more than their fair share of shoot outs. The only shoot out in a major championship they ever lost was in final of Euro 1976 against Czechoslovakia.
The opposing goalie guessed the direction correctly exactly 50% of the time but only one managed to even touch the ball.
