uher 4200- what tape type

In the old days many quality home tape recorders had different settings for the bias when referred. to the type of tape used--luckily enough I still have my HiFi for Pleasure Cassette Digest book ( 1981 ) and it has a long list with pictures along with the audio response of tapes split into four classes.

What isn't in the book is Uher tape recorders as they are German , Philips is there though a near neighbour.

Its got graphs of the different tapes like metal and their reaction on a large range of tape recorders --yes looking at the tape recorders I was right most are switchable for different types of tape .

Hi! According to Uher's manuals the 4200 was adjusted for BASF DP26, so LP35, which is the long-play version of the DP26, should be fine too. OTOH I have had constant bad experience with back-coated tape - the pressure pad and the tape pressure fork tend to tear the coating off - so I'd avoid the LPR35.
