Had these drivers sitting my shed for months, they will eventually be part of a 3.5 way, but had to see how they sound. SB15MFC -4 & SB21SDC tweeters, Xover 3KHz, in 11 Litres tuned to 44Hz for an F3 of 43. (I didn't use the 0.39 ohm R in series with the tweeter) Sound remarkable, great clarity on vocals, & impressive low mids for Double bass, handle metal (Ningen Isu) well until they are wound up quite high. Really impressed by the MFC drivers.
The 18mm ply boxes are recycled, I should know from experience that it's easier to start from scratch, but I'm genetically programmed as a tightarse. So this evening, time to set them up properly in the room, pour a Glenmorangie, & settle down for a session....
For the 3.5 way, lower mids will be SEAS CA18RLY, and for woofers, not sure possibly 2x SB20PFC, or this Altronics 10";

Whats a 3.5way
edit* it's basically a three-way, where the woofer has a helper woofer that is low passed somewhere...correct?
Basically a 3way with a subwoofer seems to be...maybe a little controversy over calling it a subwoofer depending on where the low pass is but...non the less...I like it.

Yes, I'd avoid calling it a subwoofer. I think you were making the point that this woofer has its own job to do?
"this woofer has its own job to do? " - sort of, It'll be doing the really low stuff by itself, as well as doubling up the mid-woofer. Any low-mid cost (Under AUD 150 each) solutions available in Australia for the woofer welcome. (Even considering SB Audience woofers, but they don't go low enough for HiFi, I want to hit the low 30s). Sounds great as a 2.5 way now with a 10" Peerless handling the low end, I want to go 3.5 way to avoid the distortion rise that inevitably happens below 200Hz in smaller (& for that matter most other) drivers, particularly when I'm in Metal mood...
"how the SB15MFC differs from the SB15NRX? " - don't know, I have used the 8" NRX as a woofer in a 3 way, and a pair of 5" PFCs in a mini 3 way, but to me the 15MFC is probably the clearest driver over a wide range than anything else I've tried, including recently 5" Wavecors, 4" Dayton PC105, and the Tymphany TG9.

I did a SB21RDC + SB15MFC speaker and a nice midwoofer. I do prefer the sound of the SB**NAC midwoofers (even over the Satori) but takes a bit more work in the xo.
Going by memory I think the MFC is better than the NRX as the NRX had a bit of a hollow quality to the mids (2009).

In so many words. If we crossed it 120hz or lower its magically a subwoofer...magic
I'd hate to get caught up in an argument over semantics but while technically you're right, maybe the description should fit the purpose so that developments stay on track?
I think you could do a 3-way with a good 10" woofer without the adding complexity of another midbass unit.
I had a pair of those redback drivers and returned both due to severe manufacturing faults. They are cheap drivers and specs are not even close to what is stated.
I would look at SB acoustics 10" woofers from WES in Sydney.

Agreed, I would never have thought to call the 2.5 way speakers I've done with Altec woofers a 2 way w/sub. Actually, way back when we just called them dual woofer 2 ways and only if someone looked at the XOs would they notice something 'funny' was going on.
These would work well for only a bit more cost than those redback drivers:
