If you know right away that you post-posted, and care, you can delete a post too. You have to read the screens very carefully. It asks "are you sure?" at least twice.

I spent several hours looking at this today, and while I can see the effect narrowing down the cause has proved tricky.
For now, I have just rebooted the whole server, as it had been ~6 months since the last reboot. Hopefully that blows out the cobwebs a bit.

Some further analysis today has revealed that the almost certain culprit was the Tapatalk plugin.
Unfortunately we can't have the forum's stability at the mercy of Tapatalk's software.
When we move to XenForo (which is progressing well, and currently in the build phase), we will be discontinuing support for Tapatalk. XenForo has very good mobile support with its responsive design. Right now we don't have a good mobile option, so Tapatalk will stay. But if this happens again, we'll just have to remove it.
