I spent the first 9 years of my life in Didcot and I remember it having a telescoping gas storage thingie for the town gas supply.
on topic - saw Roger Penrose explain that the Universe is expanding into the next big bang. Apparently when the universe is infinitely big it loses any ability to have a size and it’s all the same as being a singularity again.

Is Roger Penrose still banging on about his Conformal Cyclic Cosmology (CCC) hypothesis?

Hundreds of scientists have pointed out to Penrose that the data is to a very great degree inconsistent with what he argues.

Sounds like most Physics theories then Galu 😀
Sabine Hossenfelder has spoken about this very thing. Everyone has a theory. Even Steve!

What's Penrose most famous for? For "real advancements in a field" I'm thinking his tiles in mathematics.
His book "The Emperors New Mind" had a hypothesis that the brain, specifically neurons, were affected by quantum-level subatomic actions (which I thought back then MIGHT BE plausible), and that it's not possible to have consciousness without it (the big problem with that hypothesis is defining consciousness). I read the whole thing back then, it included a lay-level course in quantum mechanics (I had read several other such popular treatments of quantum mechanics) as part of the argument. He published a second version of that book with a different title (I forget) where he allegedly answered the critics of the first book, but I didn't read that one.
I guess he's famous for coming up with ideas that don't quite get confirmed.
Penrose's 600 page book was the most boringest thing I have ever read in my life!
But we can have a bit of fun with Bonsai...
I think he has a bit of a thing about Sabine Hossenfelder... 😱

I can see the appeal, but really, it will cause severe trouble if your wife knows. And I'm not too convinced she is a good Physicist. 😀
It was always "Monsieur Le Blanc" for me:

A tremendous mathematical joke.

Quantum consciousness?
Quantum mind - Wikipedia
Penrose has suggested that consciousness derives from the collapse of quantum superpositions which previously existed as pieces of spacetime curvature. 😕
All I can say is that Penrose makes my brain hurt!

Searching! 😉
In the late sixties, Josephson became interested in the debate concerning the relationship between thought and consciousness in the human mind, but went on to win the Nobel Prize in Physics for his prediction of the Josephson effect in connection with his work on quantum tunnelling

Here's an electrical symbol I'm not familiar with - that of a Josephson junction.

A Brilliant piece of Work, IMO. Especially coming from the Light Blues of Cambridge.

Always enjoyed Superconductivity myself. A surprising Phenomenen. 🙂
I've got a thing for Sabine, too. My wife knows. Just one of the many things that cause an eye-rolling reaction from her. 😉
I recall the late 1970s, the Next Big Thing was hoped to be room-temperature superconductors and josephson-junction (then faster than transistors) computers.
Superconductivity can work at 59F. But rather impractical pressure required.

A third success for the Mars Helicopter! 50m travelled and back at 5m. About 80 seconds. Two more to go. Video to come I suppose. But pictures here.

I remember them. Epsom schooldays. 😀
A twopenny half to Drift Bridge on the 167A.
A fourpenny half to Tattenham Corner on the 406A.
A 3 bob day rover to Fulham F.C and Chelsea F.C on the 93 to Putney.
Our school scarf was blue and white, so was good for Stamford Bridge football ground. I think it worked for Wimbledon F.C. too. 😎

The translation's easy. What's a "clippy", a barber?😀"C'mon get aff!" was the Glasgow clippy's confusing cry.
(Translation: "Come on get off!")
I think they called them clippy's because they would clip a hole in return tickets... 🙂

Doesn't seem to be any sound. Whyever not? 😕
