How to control speed on my Rek-o-kut k33h

Strobe disk. They used to sell them in record shops. Surely a phono site has a printable version. No great accuracy is needed, only a specific number of dots/lines on a near-circle. You will be wanting the 60Hz version in New Mexico.

OH!! And a simple (not "compact") fluorescent lamp or a very bright Neon. Failing old technology, some lash-up with wall AC and LEDs. (That site says tungsten will work, and it does, if you look real hard, if you even have tungsten incandescent today.)

I have a Rek-o-kut k33h and I'm wondering if I can control the speed with a simple rheostat? I was told that the new thicker than original belts changes the speed.

That machine has a synchronous motor, so it "locks into" the AC power line voltage. (60Hz)

So any "rheostat" will not work.

The only recommended and sensible way for any fine-tuning of the speed is to adjust the tension plate assembly under the top hood.
There is a locking screw once it's set right.

This adjusts the tension on the belt - using a strobe disk visually, and while playing a record.

Fresh and sparingly used lubricant on the motor bearings and platter shaft is a good idea beforehand, as is making sure the belt, motor pulley, and platter rim is clean.
