I am looking for book recommendations or links to various sites that could offer a form of education when it comes to better understanding electronics and amplifiers. I have a background in Chemistry and can read a schematic pretty well BUT where I fall apart is comprehending the schematic. Why is that capacitor there, why is that resistor there, etc. I have toyed with the idea of taking some college classes but being a teacher and dad funds for that are not available at the moment.
Have a look at this. I bought the book years ago.

The book MAKE:Electronics is for beginners and may be looking into, on the other hand, knowing how to read a schematic, you may already know most of it.

There ARE a lot of websites teaching electronics, though I don't have any to recommend offhand.
The 'advanced' book that everyone recommends (really, the writing is informal and a pleasure to read, download the sample chapter from The Art of Electronics 3rd Edition | by Horowitz and Hill and see) is discussed here:

I thought that, since the 2nd edition is now out of print, the download would be guilt free.
I certainly do not encourage anyone to breach copyright!

Are there any good youtubers that teach the basics? There’s a lot of very specific videos for certain things but I haven’t found anything good that really approaches audio equipment in general.

Your local community college will have some good texts. Last year's revision with the obsolete problems & answers is always a bargain.
I picked up Electronic Devices: The electron flow Version for about $2 at a resale shop. Best tutorial for fixing broken amps is Tube Amplifier Debugging Page
A solid state version is 404 Not Found
That is Ron Elliott who seems to have changed servers again.

Following from indianjo's post, the ESP (Rod Elliott) website front page and main index is: Elliott Sound Products - The Audio Pages (Main Index)
The following link gets you straight to the articles and info index: DIY Audio Articles
Then scroll down to "beginners luck" and choose your learning interest topics from the options there.

Sometimes, as I am now much closer to the end of my career than the beginning, I regret missing the opportunity to go to Cal-Tech. Those lectures are really good.
I'd started watching those lectures some time ago, and for me, it's the best channel so far. I'm a physics student, and still not sure what exactly I want to do after graduation, so when I have free time I watch or read different useful things. And also, those channel helps me with my studying, because I have different additional courses. I use this channel, uk.edubirdie, Coursera as helpers. And, if you haven't used Coursera, I recommend trying. There are different courses, and I think that you'll find the one which will be beneficial for youProf. Ali Hajimiri from Caltech has a bunch of analog circuit design lectures online:
