Three way nearfield set up- need help with sub position?

I'm building a set of computer speakers for myself, and I'm planning on making them a three way. A subwoofer will be built into each speaker and will be covering 35-120 hertz.

As I see it I have three options for placement: Downward firing, rear firing, or upward firing. I can't have the subs front firing because it would become too tall for my desk.

I think my best option would be upward firing. Rear firing would cause issues if there was a wall near by and downward firing wouldn't work well on a flimsy desk because of vibrations. Am I making the right decision? Would an upward firing subwoofer cause issues with being so close to the tweeter?

I can't see the point in twin subwoofers for a computer.
3-Way yes perhaps but why not do a single subwoofer under the desk. Although I guess a couple of the Dayton 4 inch subs in each box wouldn't take up too much real estate in which case I'd simply use forward firing

Honestly I just don't really want to give up my floor space, which is why I want them built in. I don't have space for the subs to be forward firing though like the conventional three way speaker. It would end up being too tall for my requirements, which is why I was thinking upward firing would be best.

Corner placement?
Wall hanging?
Or simply sitting on the desktop?
TBH I've never tried up-firing woofers but no reason not to use them like that.
What size woofers tho? I've played around with 2.5s using an 8" woofer.

I'm going to use the 5.25 tangband subs, and these are just going to be sitting on the desktop. They wouldn't be near a wall right now but I want to avoid the issue of excessive boundary gain if I ever move them to a desk near a wall, which is why I wanted them to be upfiring.

I guess I'll go through with it then.

Your position is understandable. You want lower/midrange to be produced by a forward facing driver and bass to fit better, so 3-way makes sense.

It may be possible to use a single sub, maybe a concealed type. Maybe a bandpass type. Maybe something that fits behind your monitor and vents underneath it.

I do prefer the sound of sealed subs, but I've never tried a bandpass enclosure so maybe I'll give it a shot.
