The tpl150 is really happy with a crossover in that 1200 plus range.

The 10 inches i use are jbl2123, which definitely are mids. That said for a 10 inch driver you want to push the crossover frequency lower rather than higher.

Knowing I would never reach nirvana interns of beaming from the 10 in her I use 1700hz as the XO.

It works for me.

I would hesitate at tryibg this with a 12 or 15 inch driver.

As muds, I cross them to 18's at somewhere in the 200hz region if I recall.

Am I right that a 15 will work in a 2 way as some are rated to 2000 hz
But crossing at that low is that hard on the tweeter?

I really don't care if the 2 ways make bass . Cross low to the sub in 70 or 80 hz

Sure, my '50s era Altec 515B are rated 20-5 kHz, though the GPA Altecs are 'only' rated to 4 kHz. This high a performing 15" aren't cheap though regardless of brand.

Generally speaking, these super high performers are for horn loading with 1200-1600 Hz being the normal max XO point to a mid and/or tweeter horn, so if using another type of tweeter it's often required to use multiples or even make a proper line array to increase tweeter LF power handling.

OK, but the [mid]bass cab still needs at least an octave below the XO point, so still 'talking' a 15" or dual 12" for high efficiency.

What GM said, FaitalPro makes some real nice 15" in this regard as well. I use their 15PR400 and am happy with them. I've crossed them @1khz 4th order and 1.2khz 2nd order. Both applications sound very good.

If you intend to use your subs you could get away with around a 3cuft sealed enclosure. These will reach pretty low but you'll be looking at really pushing them with EQ and the enclosure will want to be 6-7cuft (critically damped). In a sealed enclosure of this size, they are down 3db @35hz in my room.

Yeah. Usually at least 8 ohms resistance series a horn tweeter plus an incandescant bulb of an ohm or 2 to limit high currents. Some designs put a AC clamp on the tweeter like about 9 volts.
Plus of course the series capacitor and maybe a parallel inductor.

You may want to look at the DeltaLite-II 2515 from Eminence since you are using a sub to fill in the very bottom.

Thanks yes I did and found a canadian company selling them so I ordered the 2 comp tweeters with horns and 2 2515 mids in 12" size as they model in about 1.6 cuft sealed.
I will mount these in separate boxes and try 1 woofer with the tweeter and then add the second and just stack them up or try a mtm style before I put them in one enclosure.

For me a 15" woofer and a 1" horn driver just don't mate well. There is something not right about the vocals.

Pano, that is an interesting observation. Assuming the crossover is well behaved do you think it is related to cone breakup harmonic distortion and a shift in source point between the center of the drivers? Do you think a coaxial like the Altec 604 would exhibit the similar behavior?

Good questions about CTC distance and coax. From my experience with 12, 15 & 18 inch coax, they do pretty well, although some of those 15 and the 18 had 1.4" compression drivers. Coax often have the problem of the cone waveguide/horn not being deep enough to fully support the low end needed for the low/high crossover point. The coax usually does do voice well. I've enjoyed the Altec and Urei, and some others like Tannoy to a lesser degree.

I have used dozens of different models of pro 2-way speakers with horns. Many modern versions have horns that are wrap around the woofer - one would assume for better CTC distance. And yet I've never heard a 15" woofer and 1" horn that sounds natural on voice. 12, 10 and even 8 inch woofers with a 1" CD almost always sound more natural, especially on spoken voice. With singing, you can get away with a lot. :p

So yes, maybe it is the CTC distance. I had not thought about that, it just seemed to me like the 15" woofer wasn't sounding right at the top of its range where it crossed to the horn. Good point.

guys just my luck i got a email today from the company i bought the 12 " and tweeter from stating allow 6 to 8 weeks due to covid issues.

so tonight i found a guy on ebay selling jbl 2425 with lense he called it, a pair for $450
