Which *Home Audio Consumer* (as opposed to professional audio) speaker manufacturers do you trust as far as making a good, solid product based on solid engineering? And especially value since it seems a lot of commercial anything in high end audio is overpriced these days.

I would probably put Neumann first with Genelec not far behind. Given the different job asked of pro speakers they are inevitably going to have a more reliable technical performance than home speakers. In the home audio field KEF do some good things but also one or two less good. Harman products tend to be pretty well designed but are rarely competitively priced here in Europe.
commercial or consumer?
Home audio, not professional audio, sorry, just corrected my original post
At the low priced end, I recently bought a pair of Cambridge SX-50 speakers for my mother-in-law, and for $200/pair I thought they sounded really nice. The cabinet was reasonably solid.
Monitor Audio, Revel, Kef (as mentioned), PSB - I would trust these to offer good value.

In the lower end of the spectrum, Wharfedale and Eltax always seemed to me like reasonably priced for what you get.
any mfr that has a record of good designs over long period of time and that does not show of their crossover boards to make a sale point
other then that I would not trust anyone

Most here just say the mainstream brands, and most of those i don't trust or like. Kef is an exception, they make very good speakers. ATC and Focal also give very good products, and the Neumann (former Klein & Hummel) is also very good. Harbeth does it also, but i in a certain style and colour (they are coloured) that you may like or not (and there is a heavy discussion between the two sides). Tannoy is the same, but more expensive and more bling included. Idem with Bowers & Wilkinson (very bright).
Genelec is very clean, but gives me fast listening fatigue, (after an hour, max 2 hours i need to stop listening). I often listen to a few sets (as monitor in a radiostudio i work in, and in a homestudio of a friend). Monitor Audio and Revel sound bad to me.

I’ve always been a fan of Tannoy but they had quite a few strange products as well not all are great and it’s clear they sometime have to cut cost. I opened a Mercury I believe and the drivers casket was made of pure plastic it broke when I tried to attach again with too much torque. Also some models have very uneven response but for the most part the dual concentrics had been fine as long as it’s 6” and larger.
I trust Jordan, they put all their effort into one speaker instead of a multitude for different tastes.
