Surely the purpose of cable lifters is to facilitate Hoovering the carpet?
Carpet? :scratch2: Maybe you haven't met the other half of the present day audiophiles...

You are laughing at yourself! There are many books on non-destructive diagnostics of the condition of cable insulation. You just didn't know about it. Our company manufactures equipment that accurately determines the place and time of cable damage in the future, as well as the condition of overhead line insulators in power systems by analyzing voltages and currents in electrical networks. These are very high technologies of microprocessor-based relay protection and automation, as a rule, with complex software with their own specifications and using artificial intelligence. Few people own them, some of them are Siemens and ABB.

MIT, this apparent worry over speaker wiring and its perceived vulnerability to outside interferences is silly paranoia, plain and simple.
So many people that are not schooled in fundamental electronics are naturally gullible to such rediculous claims

To put things in proper perspective, and describe the actual facts surrounding speaker wiring, I'll just say this....
An amp is low impedence at its speaker terminals.... wiring from it is also low impedence.... milliohms at best, and the speaker at the other end is only a few ohms, also low impedence.
There is nothing, NOTHING along this sonic route that some incredibly weak outside force-field-of-worry that some obsessivly-gripped-by-paranoia internet authority tries to justify.

Nothing against you, or anyone involved in this subject, but jesus mary and joseph, I get so tired of internet threads related to this non-issue.
I do my best to staighten people out with the truth, not paranoid nothings.

Glad you magnanimously have nothing against me. Nowhere and no place in my life have I ever espoused using lifters, and your veiled accusation aside, asking questions is not a paranoid nothing.
Nor will I go take an engineering course to find an answer if there's an electrical engineer right there to ask.
Jesus, Joseph and other obscure middle eastern religious characters, I get tired of smug insults resulting from merely commenting on posts.

In my younger days I "trained" my ears discerning noise and thd applying different signals, measuring and hearing as well. So I learned the importance of masking.

Training may be understood as focusing. Anyway the resolution is limited to our restricted physical and mental abilities and so I would never claim to discern an amplifier with 0.1% THD from 0.01%THD.

In my younger days "training my eyes" tended to result in a slap!

Do people get as hot under the collar on forums about other subjects, or is it mainly an audio thing?
It's not exclusive to audio. I read cycling forum where the same heated exchanges take place on subjects like how to increase speed, which bicycle frame is more aerodynamic, what does lighter bicycle do or don't do for the rider, ...etc. I've seen cussing over chain lube claims. Then there are shills who do the same thing you see here. :Pinoc:

Yesterday, I heard a Zoom talk on cables from a former Belden engineer. It went for 3 hours, and it challenged many of the opinions given here about how many think that a wire is a simple thing to understand. Through numerous measurements and comparisons he proved that cables can really sound different, even when sticking to engineering understanding only, and not really using subjective opinion as well. I learned something significant, and I have been looking at the problem for 40 years. Just think what you might have learned. The speaker was named Galen Gareis and he has several white papers out there. Those interested in such things should look him up.

I am lucky. My wife encourages regular eye training. :p

LOL right next to FAS42, still sprouting on another site I got Banned from for being too objective!

Hi Marce,

Good to see your remaining parts are still holding together. And I don't want to know where FAS42 is posting now :)
