Seeking equivalent of very old SEAS driver

Hello,

In order to repair an old monitor, I am looking for an equivalent of the very old SEAS 25F-EWX 10''/26cm woofer. The replacement part should have very close specifications, including the frame's diameter (261mm), to avoid new woodworking as much as possible. Otherwise if you know where to find this part second-hand in good condition, I'd be interested too.

Thank you.

Actually I don't know the exact issue but I think it's broken. It's a bit complicated because it's in a FAR loudspeaker, a small Belgian brand which has ceased activities a few years ago when its founder died. So now it's in the hands of a former employee of the company who has the required technical documentation about all FAR models and he said the part must be replaced. Do you think a broken woofer can be fixed?

Thanks a lot for the VIFA reference, @markbakk! I'm going to check that.

Yes, often so. But be prepared to face a 'total loss' when magnets have demagnetized (it certainly happens), voice coils have broken/burnt or bobbins are damaged by hitting the pole piece. With woofers voice coils mostly are not broken, the litze wire could have gotten loose though.

Cones and surrounds can be fixed. Since I expect you to be in Belgium, check out Total Speaker Repair or Audiolab.

And did you check Ebay?

The M25WO-49-08 from Vifa drops in nicely. NOS might be available somewhere. Tymphany even takes old drivers in production again. I’d give Audio Components in NL a ring.
What’s wrong with the Seas drivers?

Not certain where the OP went with this. I checked out the suggested Tymphany driver: It's 4 hole mounting and the SEAS is 6 hole mounting. Plus, it's a paper cone whilst the original SEA is polyamide.

Hi - did you resolve your search? For the original, did the cone move or did it appear stuck? Is it the foam surround which has perished?

If you sand 1-2mm around the baffle hole it will fit easily. If the bolt hikes doesn’t fit you rotate the driver 30 degree and drill new ones, old holes can be filled. I wouldn’t call this wood work or any problematic adjustment but just an upgrade. Put a -4dB L-Pad on the HF and you could be fine but to be honest I would measure this as the measuring technique and technology has changed slightly over the last 40 years I wouldn’t trust it. Maybe you can post a picture or some info about your original speaker for us to advice what you may want to do on crossover, and maybe the HF. You could probably simplify the crossover due to the new drivers smooth roll off.

Edit: if you look closer at the driver chassis you will notice you only need slightly sanding where the bolts are. Not all the way through. It means you will not break the cabinet at all and the old driver would also fit if you keep the bolts 30 degrees offset from old and new.

I'm a little late, but I have 4 ea Seas 25F_ewx drivers . Never used or even mounted. I bought 8 in the '80's but only used 4 of them.
I did coat the cones with "Cone Coat" so the moving mass is probibly 34g insted of the stock 33g.
The 4 I used worked very well. Feel free to contact me if anyone still needs them

Sony SS-5300 speakers have Seas 25F-EW drivers and they are common in the UK second hand market. The surrounds are usually in very good shape, but many of them have voice coil rub. The glue used probably deteriorated after all those years.
