I know the Speakons with metal shells take a lot of heat to solder, but no plastic melted on mine.

Well, those are pretty bad no matter how you spin it.You can’t expect 8 sets of interconnects to cost *nothing*. if you’re on that much of a budget, use these (and 8 pieces of lamp cord).
Also, I only need 4 of these: https://www.mouser.ca/ProductDetail/504-A20430807/ plus 32 (and spares) of #6 ring crimp terminals at about 30 cents each, so...
This is way off-topic. Apologies for that.
On the other hand, or so it seems to me, this connectors-hype seem to be pretty much overstated. (I admit I often am very tempted by good-looking, nifty thought-through systems like the Furutech FT-865 [emoji14]) but– an electric connection needs next to nothing to be established, as is the case with those spring-loaded connectors like in apples ingenious magsafe connectors... which of course tickles my curiosity if this could be used as a audio-connector.

Line level, probably. Speaker level, no.those spring-loaded connectors like in apples ingenious magsafe connectors... which of course tickles my curiosity if this could be used as a audio-connector.
