I will be in need of new TV speakers for my living room. I will be using them for TV 90% and music 10%. They will be in phantom mode 100% of the time WITHOUT any subs. I will be using my old Yamaha AVR that is 4ohm stable for stereo, bass and treble for eq only (for now) And they must be capable of at least 40hz or lower. They will be in a corner so I’ll have to figure for a front port. I have 39” from tv to floor if I want them under the TV.
MUST BE A FLOOR STANDING TOWER.

I’ve thought about the DIYSG 1099’s or HT’s but I’ll need a sub so for now that’s a no. I’ve also thought about the classic 2.5 but feel that they would not be an upgrade to what I have now. I seriously would love to build the testarossa’s but I feel they would be wasting away doing TV duty and they are a little out of my budget. I’d even consider a line array.
Soooo..... I’m looking to spend up to $1000 for the pair if you feel it would be worth the money even for TV duty (statements ll?) or maybe just any 5-$700 a pair towers. Bonus if it’s a good off axis ribbon tweeter of some sort.
Thoughts......
Thank you, Chad
For reference this is my theater so I am not in need of anything else besides what you read above, all other duty’s are covered.

Aktive ”monitor” speakers may do just what you want.Behringer, JBL, Adam. Try check out the measurements/tests on audiosciencereview.com. He first listens without eq and then try to remedy shortcomings.
Cheers!

Oops. I didnt read the discrete sentenceabout floorstander. Well it mostly depends.of the size.of your room. XTZ uses multible ports and comes with plugs to close them to fit your room. Maybe also on models lower than 39”. I had an idea of a sub not much deeper than the tv, and going all the way to the floor or hidden behind the TV. A demand for cleanout forced me to throw out the 4 six-inches I had in mind. That would be a posibility if you go away from floorstanders or need more low-end
Cheeers!

Take a look at the drivers and multi-way kits offered by Danny Ritchie at GR Research, and maybe overlook some of his exuberance for boutique crossover parts quality and wire.

Were I still actively throwing money away at this addiction - oops, that came out wrong😉 , I’d love to try out something different than the myriad of single driver designs - as satisfying as they can be.

Floor standing, front port, enough bass.... That screams MLTL.
And as Chris said, something like a WAW (or FAST) would give you more, with a helper woofer for the lows and the fullrange for low mids to higher up.
At the moment, I have the 5x8 SBA woofer, combined with their little SB65 up and it is sweet. Slim cabinet with the driver mounted on the long axe, and front port.
Lows reach down to 30Hz.
Check out X's thread about the 10F/RS225 as well for another version of the principle.

Hello, my name is _____ and it’s been three month since my last build....
Here is another somewhere to throw money too, especially if your looking for something a little different.
My problem is that I cannot narrow things down, and I like options. But I do like recommendations.
Speaker Kits - Meniscus Audio
Wide area there to deal with.
You do realise that we mainly to wide band driver setups here ?
A coax here or there, some funky 6db 900hz crossover thing, but subs and supertweets are even allowed.
Based on the kits you are looking at, I'd post or move this to multi-way forum.
Pay no attention to my current jbl avatar, lol.

Aside from the lazy attempt at sarcasm, my earlier reply should have included a short list of points/questions:
Where are you located geographically? There will most likely be lots of good recommendations to follow, but the vagaries of international shipping, exchange rates and local import tax / customs regulations can add significantly to landed cost of any audio gear.
As Norm notes, most of the discussions in this particular sub-forum are related to single wide-band driver based designs. Over the course of almost 20yrs of active DIY speaker building, most of my hundreds of builds have been of this category, and indeed my current 7.1 HT system still consists of such - specifically, the L/R mains are Alpair A10.3 in Scott Lindgren’s Pensil - a very competent and simple to build floorstander.
However as others will be happy to point out, this class does have its limitations, and I’ve found the least compromised of them generally pay the price of requiring larger enclosures -such as floorstanding MLTL or more elaborate backloaded horns / labyrinths for deepest low frequency extension- which I’d opine is a major factor in satisfaction with a home theatre system.
In a small room, you might be happy with something like a single Mark Audio A10.3, Pluvia11, or Fostex FF165WK per channel in such a design without adding dedicated sub(s).
By “kits”, do you mean including materials for - or fully assembled enclosures themselves? There could be scores of quite competent recommendations given herein, but many will be predicated on “DIY” construction of the enclosures. If you’re comfortable with the woodworking, I think you’ll find a much wider range of options available.
Gentlemen and ladies, start your engines.
