Please, read carefully.
I don't down anyone, there are others who write that Totaldac and MSB Tech are incompetent.
I have never said that Soeren is incompetent, I have only said that in my opinion some of the design choices he made are wrong, starting with the Si570.
And I don't up my design, I have never named my projects as "ultimate" or "reference", although they probably are.
A little humility would be needed.

If nobody haven't noticed yet, then SBAF have a dac2541, you can get an idea on how next gen boards will sound like....
Soekris DAC2541 Review And Measurements | Super Best Audio Friends
All the differences people are are describing in that thread between Soekris and Schiit converters I have heard in my DAM1021 by using different filters.
The filters that sound best also provide the least difference in DAAD recordings wrt to the unconverted original file.
Soren, if you do take interest in designing a standalone calibrator, it probably could be battery-powered.
by using different filters.
Hi, I haven't tried to play with filters yet. Which are the best ones in your opinion and where is it possible to find them? The only thing I tried to do is upgrading the firmware (and I found that it was already the last version...)
Thank you,
Gaetano.

TNT one are pretty good post #1803
Hi again, just to avoid disasters, is the procedure of uploading a new filter on the dam1021 the same of upgrading its firmware?
Thanks to all,
Gaetano.
Thanks to all,
Gaetano.
No one really knows as it has never been officially described in a product manual from the vendor.
Strong indications however indicate that yes, it's possible by:
- Enter Download in the umanager
- Use "send file" (or similar) in usedd terminal program
- wait for success message
- power on/off
Verify with "filters all"...

Sören, it would be good if you could separate the FIR (1/2 etc) filters to the biquad section so that one can release "binary" filters but still make it possible for the end user to enter biquads...

Hi all again. If I've understood well, dam1021 is able to natively handle dsd256 format. So trying to play dsd256 files, I get from foobar2000 this message: sample rate of 705600 hz not supported by this device. Am I mistaking something? The usb interface is the xmos 384khz dxd dsd256.
Thank you,
Gaetano.

The message is clearly coming from your USB board driver and has nothing to do with the dac. Something somewhere is clearly misconfigured, most likely in Foobar.
Another mystery is why one would want to play DSD through a PCM dac. Yes, it can be done, but why?

Well, In most cases the DSD track of a SACD sounds better than the CD track, IMHO. In most cases I have no high res PCM of that recording nor want to switch the DAC just for listening to a DSD.
Fair enough. It's for convenience then. The software player can just as well convert it to PCM.
To be honest, I have several SACD images I can listen to. So, cause it's possible to setup foobar in a way that it gives straightly DSD to dam, which converts it to PCM (being a ladder resistors DAC, right?), my question is: why not use a feature which is specified by Soren in its site? I have to say that I have no DSD256 files (but one I used for the test), but only DSD64. But I'm curious and since Soren specified that native DSD256 files can be handled, I have tried to do that (with no success). By the way, I use the SACD component in foobar, the foo out asio component and asio proxy. I tried also, just for test, to oversample from DSD64 to DSD128 and to DSD256. The former worked, the latter no. Surely there will be something which I set in a wrong way.

Make sure you output pure DSD, not DSD over PCM which would double the bit rate, to more than the hardware can do.... There is probably a setting somewhere in foobar....
Purchase DIY Soekris dam1021 board
Hello Guys,
I'm looking for a new/used dam1021 board. (preferred the latest version available)
What are the possibilities for now? Any good source tip?
Many thanks in advance!
