Hi guys,
What type of insulation material do people use between a PCB and a metal chassis.
I know stand offs are used as a spacer underneath offering protection, but what can be used on top or below, as I often see in commercial products a type of hard card.
The reason for asking is my current project fits very tightly into its chassis.
Thanks in advance.

Nomex paper works well. Very tough, heat tolerant, high isolation voltage, can be punched for holes,
and can bend without damage. It's available in a range of thicknesses.

DMD, or Nomex paper as Rayma mentioned, works great. It is ridiculously tough and will hold off some impressive voltages.
I think Nomex 410 is the part number.

Even the 10 mil Nomex will be plenty for most uses. You can use a regular paper punch for holes.

I usually use a thin sheet of FR4 to prevent contact between the bottom of a board and the case. It's easy enough to cut with tin snips.

Of course, Kapton tape and Nomex are good choices too.

As an alternative which *might* be easier/faster to source, old style insulating paper, generic name "Presspahn", the typical brown insulating paper you see in millions of transformers.
If you know a transformer or motor rewinder nearby he should certainly be able to spare some, he might also have Nomex or Mylar.
Absolute worst case, and in a real hurry, many stationery shops carry Presspahn/"fiber" folders you can cut to size with standard scissors.

PET is usually free and can be cut from empty soda bottles if you can tolerate the higher dielectric constant.
Well designed electronic equipment should not get hot enough to melt it.

I have a roll and use strips where I think parts get a little too close to the chassis.
