scandinavian chess opening

It was fun to relive the days of what we used to call "Fools Mate".

Climbing the Rating Ladder: 1000-1200 - YouTube

I abandoned that sort of stunt at the higher levels. People didn't fall for it. Maybe Board 6 in Club games could pull it off for a 5 minute win, but my sort of battles were more ground out.

I thought geox played a solid game around 45 minutes, despite some time-wasting pawn moves. To go 20 moves without a ruinous mistake shows some promise.

I suppose the modern game is quicker. I wonder why we used to spend 5 minutes pondering a move. In fact you just choose about one of three moves based on general guiding principles.

There are games that take 48 hours...with a night sleep pause, but stockfish and alpha zero simply changed te whole chess world .Last game where a man was able to defeat a computer was in 1992...so everybody realized that chess needs to change into a speed challenge as deep analisys was pointles as long all comes down to the man's memorizing abilities.

Hi Steve!

Just a quick 'check mate'!

Could you have been the 'Steve from Portsmouth' who texted in to LBC in the early hours of this morning?

Just as I was preparing to get back to the office as well! 😉

No, it wasn't me. That looks like one of those endlessly amusing images that diyaudio post every morning at 6 AM while they back up the database:

Rather Robotic and Thomas Dolby "Leipzig", IMO. 😀

Thomas Dolby - Leipzig Is Calling - (Live 2006) - YouTube

I used to play this totally weird variation of Chess called Kriegspiel. Can't honestly remember how me and my neighbour did this with no umpire, but totally surreal to play blind against your opponent. Somehow it worked. We got quite good at it.

Flippin' Heck. That was sharply tactical to the max. TBH, I always preferred Ivanchuks' position.

But I hate games like that. One error and you are dead. 😱

I'd wear a black shirt in the tournament. Just because it looks sinister and might worry my opponent. A lot of psychology involved in Sport. You need an edge. 😀

I think Kramnik has thrown in the towel these days. Which I wouldn't do. Still a relatively young man.

He was on a hiding to nothing against Ivanchuk, who was already out of contention, therefore playing for Kudos. Therefore willing to risk sharp tactics. The safe option with the Black Pieces is to play for a draw. That would have done for Kramnik, in hindsight.

Just complicate the position, play solid, avoid swaps. The four Knights game was always the boringest game, IMO. Most likely to lead to a draw. 🙂

Sorry, mate. I never beat Gary Kasparov. Who are you talking about? 😱

Way I see it, is actually there are actually about 20 top animals at any Sport.

I am strictly spectator. Able to appreciate the best. But the great trick must be to play your own game. Oafish and talentless opponents just try to put you off. Ignore them. 😎

I hate to see a good thread die under pressure.

As mentioned I am pretty hopeless at Chess. Probably about 1800.

I was watching Maurice Ashley talking about his Desire to be a Chess Grandmaster today:

Now the amusing part is to start with this tough Guy, Maurice, play a Trash-Talking player in what I presume to be Central Park, New York.

I loved this. Maurice's politeness is exceptional. His addled opponent is out of his depth. "Are you an expert? I notice you are hardly looking at the Pieces."

It is only at the end that Maurice introduces himself. Maurice Ashley, Grandmaster. 😀

An exceptional interview with Maurice:

Interestingly, Maurice Ashley has only made Number 1901 in the World. Rating of 1440.

But an exceptionally forgiving man.

Never been in a bookies in my life, Steve!

Nearest I got to the nags was organising a horse race night.

'Twas so long ago that the races were on VHS video tape!

However, the punters loved it and we made a lot of money for charity. 😎

.
1800 on chess.com is same with 2200 on lichess...there are tens of thousands of professional players playing under fake beginner or intermediary accounts.Register as advanced, get 2000 points and see how much you're able to hold onvto it.If you still 1800 after 5...10 games then you're good. I'm about 1300 in a good day ...

Don't ever think there is anything bad about betting and gambling. This is how you test your ideas against the Universe.

Actually, it's an early declaration, but I am on Kameko. 🙂

But I might change my mind closer to the day. So many good horses.
Sorry mate, but you already have a topic full of horses...
If you have anything about chess it's ok , if not...please let it die...
