Hi,
I would be interested in a DAC module with 1x AK4499EQ or better with 2x AK4499EQ in mono mode. Input only I2S to connector or pin header. My vision is, that on the PCB desk would be only 1 or better 2x AKM, voltage control, I2C bus and analog stage. I2S input, I2C bus not isolated, 4 layer PCB for simple layout . Here is my old unfinished project, how I imagine the implementation.
I would like to ask if there would be interest in such a board and if anyone could do a professional design. It would be good if there will be possibility of distribution of the board with soldering AK4499EQ (pad bottom side chip). Even better with the possibility of professional soldering was all SMD and THP components. It would be a widely usable module. I'm willing to pay for such board and I need a few pieces. I would probably be able to design it myself, but I don't have the possibility of using of automatic assembly machine and reflow.
Could someone du it?

Hi,
or better with 2x AK4499EQ in mono mode.
What is the reason, that you want 2x4499?
4499 is 4ch DAC, so even with one chip you will have 2 DACs in parallel in each stereo channel.
P.S. According for my experience, for all AK449x series, there is absolutely no sense to parallel the DACs.
All versions with "2x4490, "2x4493", "2x4497" have only the marketing sense and influences to the customers only 🙂
but I don't have the possibility of using of automatic assembly machine and reflow.
For a few pieces Reflow Oven and P'n'P Machine are overkill, everything can be made with the soldering station and fan.

Hi,
If you google the japanese part of the internet you will find that at least four gentlemen have already done boards with AK4499, some in dual-mono configuration. Hint - search for AK4499 by looking for pictures.

The PCB manufacturing houses that make bare PCBs can also solder whatever parts you want, only certain ones or all of them. Just tell them what you want them to do, and they will give you a price for doing it.
However, a prototype may end up costing much more than a Topping D90 or similar, and might sound worse. Might sound much better too, but that is highly unlikely if you haven't done enough R&D work first.
Altor: Could you sell me one empty board and documentation for it ?
It is not for sale - it was a prototype, which I made more then a year ago. I assembled one and few units are at my friends. I do not have spare boards.
I did not heard any benefits vs 4497 in sound, also my measurement setup cannot show the big difference.
So this project was stopped, and I'm not sure if I will return.
Better to wait 4498.
P.S. I just show this photos to proof that P'n'P Machine and Reflow Oven are not necessary 🙂

Still working on an AK4499 dac myself. Sounds very good. Did some FFT measurements yesterday and did some listening tests too. Prefer to use both approaches not just one or the other. IMO it helps to have a good HPA and good cans in order to hear the small stuff, similar to needing good enough test equipment. Way I look at it is if AK4499 doesn't sound better than earlier AKM dacs maybe its not due to the dac chip. PM is okay if anyone would like to discuss further.
Whilst hearing is an illusion in the brain, saying ears do not have anything to do with it is a delusion.
undusting my Planar III
Bu we can slide easily on the tech side and only "listen" to a dac on scope screen 😀 !
- okay, old good designers knows how to listen to because they are musicaly educated and have experience of their (and others) bad designs -
But old (educated) brains, yes.
Ears do not have anything to do with it.

Why? Do You have access to AK4499 in some place?!
I think that unfortunately thinking/ working on 4499 dac boards, or even, any kind of AKM dac boards..
Is a mirage, at this moment..
Next question.. Will they be able to come back, at all..?!
Will they be able to reconstruct, and retune/refine the process line to the original parameters..
Will there be new production AK4499 with equal parameters to the old production..
Ciao, George

I built a DAC with the 4497 with USB, OPT and COA. I use all the inputs and love the DAC. If a 99 board is out there I would upgrade. I only have to swap the brds.

I have hard time understanding what you mean with above.
Would you explain please?
