I have an SL-12010M5G with an SME 309 arm. I also have a Kenwood 550 with a broken arm.
I could move the SME 309 to the Kenwood and get the original tone arm for the Technics.
Or I could get a SME 3009 for the Kenwood.
The cost will be about the same.
All advice apreciated.

Tough choice. I have no direct experience of the SL-1210, but I do have a KD-550. What's broken on the original arm? short of a bent arm tube it should be fixable.
I also have an SME309 on my other turntable and I do consider moving it to the 550. Only thing that really stops me is that I have a 3009 SIII and not sure which table to put that on.
Whichever way you go you would end up with one great turntable and one only a step behind.

I don't know why you would re-wire and change the bearings on a 309? Mine I have had 20 years now and not found it lacking in any way. It just does the job.

Loose bearings. But I believe the TT is worth a better tone arm. The Micro-Seiki is probably pretty good but could use an upgrade.
Bearings can be replaced. You could even get a sapphire upgrade. I have a pristine 550 OEM arm and I'll be honest it gives my 309 a run for its money.
