To try to keep prices down I have sometimes bought a2d converters from China. Some ad9281's I bought worked fine.
On my current design I used a ad9220 and got a couple of samples from AD.
The first one worked fine.
So I bought a couple from China.
I built up a pcb with the Chinese one in it and it was terribly noisy at high speeds.
So removed the Chinese one from the pcb and fitted second AD one.
About 90% of the noise was gone.
It seems I wont learn buying Chinese cheap components.
I guess sometimes you get lucky and other times you dont...

You don't get lucky with Chinese cheap components period. Maybe on very (very) rare occasions in the far past. But for the last 10+ years it is 100% fakesIt seems I wont learn buying Chinese cheap components.

I bought a couple of new power triodes from China, which I hope will be serviceable. And I realize parts I buy from Digikey maybe from China - but here’s the key, they are carefully vetted by Digikey. What you have to avoid like the plague (not such a funny comment these days) is a large number of sellers on eBay, anonymous sellers with no accountability.
You have to stop and think why a Chinese supplier will even stock high speed ADCs, they are probably not even allowed to buy the faster parts intended for RF due to export controls
What annoys me is I have been caught out before with ebay and Chinese components.
I guess I thought at a quarter of the price of genuine parts it was worth a go.

Recycled AD9220 are about 10% of the cost of new on ADI's site : AD9220AR ???? ???SOP-28??12?ADC?????AD9220ARZ-???
Thanks.
Managed to get some in my cart then website goes all Chinese on me !
Some pages can translate and others cant.

Maybe get yourself a Taobao agent.
I've had overall a very positive experience with recycled parts from Taobao - I get the very occasional failure but its well below 10%. Sometimes the legs need scraping to get good solder adhesion. AD829 is my most recent discovery - around $3 from ADI new but 7cents recycled.

If your time is worth anything it's just a lot easier to buy known genuine parts. It can be fun to get a good deal, but I'd have to be paid to evaluate recycled parts.
