Hi all! Has anyone here tried using the Tectonic full range BMR speakers? I know they're cheap.Just asking for opinion.
I bought a pair of the 3-1/2" TEBM65C20F-8 a couple of years ago and briefly tested them before putting them in storage.
Connecting them directly to my 2 way tower speakers' binding posts without any crossovers,they seemed rather good with male voices but I don't think they can go up to the 20Khz they are rated at. Any thoughts on them?

That dip turns me off on the driver. I wonder how accurate the graph is.

Dennis Murphy of Philharmonic Audio appears to have used it in his BMR monitor. It's gotten universally excellent reviews.

Cambridge Audio also uses similar BMRs in their Minx and Aeromax range of speakers. I read somewhere that Cambridge Audio also uses the BMR drivers from the same manufacturer.
Has anyone contacted PE regarding the dips in the response graph and if the frequency range is accurate on these BMRs?

The used one is the smaller TEBM46.
IMHO the BMR65 is fun and really good for small satellites in hometheater.
If you can spend some space a tml with two of those drivers works well.
Biggest issue are the lows especially if you don't use them as desktopspeakers.
If you can get your hand on tiny sealed boxes, they are happy plaing in 1l.
A friend of mine tried to improve the sound and used them as midrange speakers and extended the tops with cheap tiny Dayton AMTs.
Biggest problem, you need a 18db or 24db crossover.
Biggest Pro: no beaming issues
I doubt PE would verify the response for one driver.
I almost pulled the trigger on a pair of Minx Mini 12 speakers. I chose to do more DIY instead.

I have the smaller ones. They still exhibit the bad dip, and there's nothing you can do about that.
They also do not like playing low. Below 300Hz, distortion rises very quickly.
Also, their limited sensitivity is kinda..... Limiting!
Maybe they would make great headphone drivers? 😀

Its flaws are quite disappointing. I can deal with response peaks, but deep dips, especially in the midrange, are unacceptable for a single-driver.

I wasn't looking for the LF response from these little buggers when I bought them. Being "BMRs", I just bought them to test their wide,off axis response.From my experience,they seem to be more suited for midrange applications in a 3 way. But others have had good results in building desktop and small full range speakers.
I like the TEBM65's, made a few different things with them. Cant say i like the TEBM35's, they didnt live up my expecation at all.

both were tuned to either F0 of 58hz and 60hz. In the right size enclosure, i cannot get them to distort, but only using a DTA-2 tri path amp in one and a KAB230 in the boombox. THey got plenty loud enough for me and i like them. I had some help putting a BSC in both and i think that made the difference.

That's some pretty awesome build there. The enclosure is over built imo!🙂

But the higher frequencies were lacking while playing 2 channel music. No where near the claimed 20Khz.
How did yours workout?

I'm not sure how accurate the graph on P.E. is,but there's a review and build of the 3 1/2" tebm65 on youtube by JoeNtell. According to his test results,the frequency response graph looks different with no peaks and dips all the way to abt 20KHz.

I found this page with what appears to be quite a bit more testing of the TEBM65C20F-8 including off axis measurements and waterfall plots. They measure a hard dip at about 1800.

i like them, but no audophile 🙂
for me i was getting stuck into woodworking more than speaker building and was enjoying kerfing (bending timber). The PC build is my daily driver and maybe if i was to rebuild them, put in a tweeter but hey i wanted a logitech replacement and replace them they did lol, really comparing apples and oranges.
Just for my own knowledge (and not offended in any way), but why do you think the enclosure is overbuilt? Wood too thick, enclosure to big etc? Just curious more than anything ��
